West is BEST
Was looking round there today. I’m in the market for new outdoor kit, walking gear, boots and some new climbing gear, shoes, harness etc.

The place is well stocked, value for money and I was impressed but I’ve never bought anything from there before. Seems to be Scandanavian gear.

Anyone bought from there before and what was your verdict?

Nearest I can get is I played Daley Thompson's Decathlon A LOT as a teenager and had the broken joysticks and sore thumbs to prove it !

Yes, but in France, massive stores and always well equipped and reasonably priced

Same brand I believe. Was the quality good?

Climbing gear obvs has to be a certain standard but not sure about clothing, boots etc.

I've bought some running gear from there. I have to say I'm very impressed. Decent quality stuff at great prices.

Highly recommend for warm clothing. I bought my kids some ski-ing layers for playing rugby and they're excellent.

Mrs G bought a whole load of hiking gear in there last week and raved about it.

The only thing I've bought there is a pair of astroturf boots. I'd tried Sports Direct but they didn't do anything in 13s. Happily Decathlon did, so that's less money going to Newcastle ...

French company. Quecha walking gear is well respected. Got the walking trousers and waterproof trousers. Kalenji for running and underpants. Got good swimming goggles and hat last summer. They do prescription lenses for the goggles, if needed. Glad they opened in Brighton last year.

We have had one in Reading for a few years. Really good quality and value, have purchased many things from them over the years.

Excellent. Looks like it’s a winner. Thanks folks.
I was also impressed with their bikes. I was very tempted.

I buy all my daughters horse riding gear from there, decent quality and a fraction of the price from proper riding shops.

Can't keep out of the Decathlon store in Crawley.

Bought walking and running stuff from them and it's been fine.

Not sure I would go for their walking boots or running shoes though.

a galaxy far far away
Decathalon = high quality, good value, pleasant environment
Sports Direct (next door) = oxygen starved jumble sale full of dross

I get load of my running ‘basics’ there like shirts, shorts etc, quality is excellent - almost always outlasts brands like Nike etc, and prices way lower. Big fan.

Very good stuff, a proper sports shop that’s sells SPORTS gear rather than this sport fashion crap!
Dangerous place to go always come out having bought something!

Their range tends to go -
Basic
100
200
500
900
Or similar. Well worth going for the higher number stuff, is much better quality.
