I would take a stab at assisting the manager, coaching and possibly some scouting.

That is the general role of an assistant manager although he might juggle chain saws on top of that.

Isn't he also responsible for health and safety, human resources and compliance?

Seems an unnecessary dig to me. You could have said the same about Bob Booker or any other assistant manager that the club has had. The truth is, you won't know unless you are an insider. It's a bit like criticising the kit man.

Not really, his title seems to suggest a certain role.

But how can anyone on the outside criticise him? How can you judge his influence or his decision making? Nothing an assistant manager does is tangible. The buck stops with the manager, not his support staff.

To be honest I'm not disputing your point in the slightest, in fact I agree. Just pointing out though that the kit man appears to have a very clear outline of what his job is.

Agreed. If the team consistently had creased shirts, bad pleating or red wine stains I would be calling for the kit man's head. Man United played in a kit washed in non biological detergent in Milan and look what happened to them.

Dean Wilkins probably can't spend all his time on the training pitch as he has to sign players, attend board meetings, etc.

Hence he has an assistant.

Ask the club..?

He works very hard supporting Wilkins and spends a time scouting etc

he must be doing something right..he has been with the club since the Adams days
