Such a shame when it was so much effort getting up from the Championship
Having watched Brighton for over forty years this is better than Gillingham.
However as others have said its the real hope that we should be making progress that really hurts

Tony forgot to mention in which division.
And nor can I. And although it pains me to say it, I'm far from certain that the club's heart is set on staying in the Premier League either. If it were, they surely would have signed a decent quality striker (or two) in January - no ifs, buts or maybes, just bloody well done it! As it is, we're now floundering around looking for all the world like an embarrassment to the top division. We won't be missed if we're relegated, that's for sure. Poor, pedestrian and uninspiring - that's BHA for you at the moment.

I have now decided after today’s debacle that the only way I can cope with our beloved team’s fickle performances is to resign myself to relegation. No more straw clutching, no more if and buts, no more relying on other teams doing us a favour. I will now come to terms that we are stuffed as a Premier League team. It is the only way that I can deal with the angst of seeing our team who looked so promising early season transform itself into a clueless, lacklustre bunch of disappointers (my word).
I have always been a glass half full supporter when it comes to the Albion, that glass has now been knocked over and is empty. Perhaps someone could fill it up and in doing so cheer me up.
I’m totally with you on this. I’m resigned to Championship football next season, and to be honest it will probably be a damn sight more enjoyable - I just want the season to end now and put me out of my misery. Then we’ll go again next year and maybe enjoy another promotion campaign.

Bloom’s obviously desperate for us to stay up, but at the same time (unlike say Villa and Sunderland in 2017) has more than an eye on us returning to the Championship.
Unwilling to push the boat out in terms of wages on eg an Ings, G.Cahill, Kouyate, Bertrand, Doucoure. Wolves pay players up to £100k a week.
Are Southampton, Palace, Wolves and Watford all fools, in case they get relegated?
Bloom contracts policy of linking the pay of several existing players, so that they always get a pay rise to match the pay of any star, hamstrings us. The 4 clubs I’ve mentioned don’t mind paying an exceptional player far more.
Effectively, signing Ings on £100k a week, would mean a £40k a week pay rise to Dunk, Montoya, Gross, Ali, Propper and Izquierdo. So we simply can’t so it.

The restrictive wage structure is always going to mean it's going to be a constant battle to stay in the division.
The upsetting thing will be if when we go down we don't come back again soon and just fall down the pecking order in the Championship like a lot of other teams have done.

I’m afraid me too. We’ve been so bad for the past couple of months I 90% expected us to lose today, even against underwhelming opponents at home.
I expect us to lose all the tougher games coming up and us to fall into the relegation zone in perhaps 2 or 3 rounds of games.
If we pull off an against the odds win the joy will be all the more intense given I‘ve reset my base line expectations to we’re in big ****ing trouble

No, you idiot! It’s the way I feel right now, and it applies to a lot die hard Albion fans as well. If you read my post I said I was a glass half full fan - you know, optimistic, loyal and everything that goes with it. If you read between the lines it would be obvious that I want the club to succeed.
We have just lost to the one team we wanted to beat. It hurts, more than that we have lost our way, that’s borne out by the results and performances over the last two months. You’re asking me to show heart and grit? Well up yours! I’ve been doing it for years watching my team play through thick and thin, so less of the insults. I will still support them through thick and thin but with a large dose of realism - maybe that’s something you need to take on board.

Firstly it was hardly a 'debacle' we don't aged for long periods, were the better side but we've got a mental block when it comes to the most important bit, scoring goals.
Secondly to cheer you up, remember you are currently enjoying one of the most successful periods in our history and this squad for all its faults may be the best we've ever had.
Seriously some of the posts here today are beyond embarrassing, the sense of entitlement some of our fans seem to have gotten. Remember where we were 10 years ago, 20 years ago. Let's it's enjoy the ride, if it's not for you then I suggest you roll into the bandwagon of any number of big clubs, but success as much as we all crave it is bit what supporting Brighton is s out, were all gutted tonight but I'd like to think after what we've been through today is less than a bump in the road and we all support something special.
Let's get behind GPott and the boys and know even if we get relegated (and I still believe we'll stay up) that it's certainly not for a lack of support

We are around where we should be in terms of budget and playing group. We are also well set for a dip back into the Championship. Our wage structure means that the drop will not be the end of the world.
However, I still feel confident that we will pick up more points over the rest of the season. Will it be enough?? Who knows.
Yesterdays game was a massively painful kick in the teeth though.

Conversely, you could say that our wages structure has prevented us from signing the sort of forward player we are desperately short of and who might have kept us up. Slow wingers and number tens obviously come cheaper because we have a considerable collection of them.

Sport and how it affects people is mad, I think. After days like yesterday I always end up really missing my playing days on a Saturday rather than watching. At least when you lose a game you've been playing in it's much more justified to feel shitty. (I still play other sports but nothing will ever compare to football!) The whole gloating and commiserating when it comes to following sport is a funny one really, as we haven't actually played any part in what's going on on the pitch, but still feel such high and low emotions through our connection to the club and the place it represents.
Through the rest of the day yesterday I kept trying to tell myself it doesn't really matter, I wasn't playing in the game, much more important things in life, the Palace ultras are an embarrassing bunch of cvnts and I'm glad we don't have to put up with a group of fans like them, etc... Didn't really work though. Went out for a meal last night and kept getting waves of disappointment and dispondency. I'm well into middle age and still hate having to socialise like that after a big defeat like yesterday's. Normally I'm fine, but the implications of losing yesterday and other results combined with who it was against made the whole day one of the most numbing I can remember in quite a while when it comes to football. Yeah we've been on a huge journey to get where we are and we should never lose sight of that, but whatever division you're in, to be in the position we're in and the form we're on takes its bloody toll, especially when you keep creating enough chances to be out of sight before eventually losing games.
Still, do feel much more accepting of the whole thing today. Fortunately it doesn't really ruin my whole weekend, just the day it of the game. It's mad that we're still not actually in the relegation zone and it's still in our hands if we can somehow pull off some results (I can't see it happening, but oh well, at least in the Championship we should win a few more bloody games and score a few more goals in the process)

We haven’t been relegated for about 12/13 years. 10-15% of our fans have never seen us relegated.
