Why does everyone insist on spending 10+ mins scrapping away the ice when a large jug of lukewarm water does the job in less than 20 seconds ?

I've been told numerous times that it will crack my windscreen but I've been doing this for 10+ years and never had a problem. It makes me laugh when all the goons in my street mess about with credit cards + scrappers and then proceed to drive off whilst dangerously peering out the small clearing they have made

Jug a water = tried n tested

What remains in the kettle from making tea, top off with cold water = sorted. Or for when I'm not at home, whatever nasty ozone damaging solvent based crap Holts put in their deicer cans...

and of course since you've now thrown water all over the place, as soon as you drive off and it freezes, countless people slip and slide around on the ice you've left...

I always use the warm/hot water from the kettle, I think the urban myth is that this might crack the windscreen, however a couple of years ago I heard a discussion on the radio and it confirmed that it was cold water that might crack the windscreen and hot water is fine....all the best....:)

Yep a bit of luke warm tap water in the kettle every morning for me does the trick.

I think in the era before safety glass it could, but back then people used to brace their windscreen if people passed them going over loose chippings... very much stronger glass now

If anyone had made their way past my gates, up the drive and across the quad to get to where I park my car, they would probably have been popped by one of my people with a shotgun for trespassing before they had the chance to slip on the ice I had left.

Luke warm water was always the way to go. Keep my car in the garage now though so don't have to bother, I just laugh at the wife's frozen car instead.

With the sad demise of the audio cassette, I now sit and wait until springtime, as CD cases are nowhere near as effective.
Fleetwood Mac's Rumours was the greatest ice scraper in history.

Couldn't lock my car this morning when I arrived at the station car park. Too cold for the key to turn.

So if anyone fancies nicking a beaten up Fiat Punto, now's your chance. On reflection, you'd be doing me a favour.

Next time - piss on the lock. Works a treat.

Heated front screens are a joy. Sit back, listen to the radio and let the car do it for you!

I start the engine 5mins before I am ready to leave, turn the heaters on full blast.
No need to scrap the windscreen and the car is nice and warm !!
