Wasn't it Doctor Socrates for Brazil in late 70's, early 80's, who smoked 60 a day ?

My hazy memory has him as captain and making lung busting runs from defence with ease.

On the one hand he appears to be a deeper thinker than your average footballer. His newspaper column is, contrary to many, usually an interesting (and honest) read, and I quite like him.

On the other hand, he's as responsible as anyone for raising Portsmouth FC from their rightful place in the scummier half of the Championship to an established and successful Premier League Side.

I liked the fact that he refused to retire from England duty...unlike those other ponces who after being dropped decided to flounce and announce their International retirement. He said that you don't retire from playing for England...unless England retires YOU!! Top bloke. Other than some of his his hairy moments he's a top keeper too
