Jim McNulty released in Div 1, player of the season in a Championship side. Russell Martin released by us in 2004 now in the Prem with Norwich.

McNulty still had a year left on his contract and negotiated early release. He was never released to "unattached status'. Martin left us at 17 in 2004 and took SIX YEARS to come good. Two very tenuous ones again there. Hardly proves your point. Any more?

Gus didnt want McNulty so let him go. If a Barnsley fan had your attitude they would have all said they didnt want him, yet he was their best player. How is that tenuous in any way? It is a perfect example.

Ok fair enough. So we have one, probably two, who went on to better things. Besides, I'm not saying "never sign a released player" but looking at most of the Champ released lists I really struggle to see any who would add something different to what we have.

On the note about Martin, I agree he's a quality player but my point was that as a minimum it took 3 years from leaving to become the player he is. Why would we sign a released player that may or may not become Champ quality when we really need players to do the business now? Obviously I get the dev squad but all our dev squad players are risks too.

Not even slightly true. He did well for Wycombe, after playing for Lewes, and then was sold on to Peterborough. He's been a quality right back for 3/4 years.

I was overstating the fact but I meant that rarely to our players get released and move up a division fast.

None of them are what we need. Darius Vassell will probably go to Crawley. Watch this space.....
Surely wages like that will cripple them!! , would be a top signing for them mind.

I agree with that, Vassell is the first one really.

To be honest, I'm not really interested in any released Champ players unless they were released by their own choice and not the club. Only a personal thing: If they're not good enough for Leicester, thats because they don't think they'll push them onwards - therefore, i don't think they'll improve us greatly.

Just what I was going to add.....not good enough for Leicester....
