If they'd said it 6 weeks ago on the day before Dunk got injured no one would have believed it.

we'll have to see if his current form is just that -a purple patch - or if he's genuinely leveled up.

Either way the best of luck to him, he's been a great pro regardless of how well he's been playing.

Apart from the first half of the Wolves game last season, he’s always been okay, not a standout, but okay. The last couple of months, he has made great strides (geddit) . Possibly, it’s come from being played in his first choice position, or he has improved with Potter’s coaching. I guess we’ll soon find out.

I thought he was a donkey but he's been fantastic at CB recently. Sucks to sell but he wanted to go + not long left on his contract. I believe after the sellon clause we'll only get £10m ish

Good luck to him.

If they're relegated, he will play regularly for them in the Championship. If they stay up, the best he can hope for is to warm the bench next season.

Sad to see him go; can’t say I saw this one coming. All things considered it’s a brilliant move for him and good business for us. I don’t feel we need to replace him immediately so we can take time and spend the money wisely…..or use it to plug any financial gaps we have.

Good luck.

I am sorry to see him go and wish him all the best. for his future.

Newcastle, though? I wish them a cataclysmic relegation, total implosion and absolute annihilation.

It's a dilemma, for sure.

I'm amazed everyone thinks this is such a great deal for BHA. £13m for an experienced top 10 PL centreback who's got a good 4-5 years in him, is playing regularly, and is (was) an important member of the team, particularly with his versatility. When we don't need the money, and have got a desperate club loaded with cash by the bollocks on the other end of the line. £13m in todays market is piss.

Who could we go out and get for £13m to replace him ? Some Championship youngster with 'potential' ? Or perhaps some bloke from a midtable club in Belgium. Great.

I wouldn’t think the sell on would be 75% of what we paid for him.

I think 10% of the fee we receive would be nearer the mark.

So, about £1.3 million.

Sad to see the big man go.

I hope the Geordies like him, but I’m afraid I hope he sufferers relegation with those wankers in charge.

Oh, for sure. He's always been a solid, whole hearted player who never fails to give 100% I've never had a problem with him as a decent squad option.

I hope he gets a massive pay rise, maintains his form, becomes a hit with the geordies but still gets relegated(nothing personal to Dan, it'd just be funny if newcastle got relegated).

But with 18 months left on his contract it was a risk if he didnt re-sign as he wouldnt have been worth much come the summer. Also we could have lost some of the younger talented CB’s if he was blocking their path

Shocking business I agree. Let’s get rid of Lamptey for a fiver too, just because another PL club want him and we’re little old Brighton. Sake…

Wrote this when the takeover was done:

I hope they dont go for Dan Burn in January. One of my favorite players. He is exactly what they need though: Newcastle fan so not likely to require too much convincing, proven PL player but not in the "unsellable at any price" category and a HGP which could matter as I expect them to mainly recruit foreign players in the next few years.

As for managers I think they just have to swallow their pride and settle for someone with experience of the league and look for something more fancy in the summer.

Think they will be relegated regardless of what they do in January. Unfortunately it will only be a minor bump in the road.

Sad to see it come true, my favorite player along with Maupay. £13m is decent money for Brighton however, Newcastle get a defender who is better than all their current ones and BDB gets to move to his favorite club and top of his wonky but hard worked career with some big bags of money. Think everyone invovled could be reasonably happy with the deal.

I imagine the plan is to have one of Clarke, Ostigard, Roberts or Van Hecke replace him this summer. Let’s not forget where we picked Burn up from and this move presents a chance for one of the defenders in the pipeline which is what the club model is all about.

With Dunk returning he would most likely find himself back in the utility role and has been presented a chance to play for his boyhood club. The club generally do not stand in the way of players who express the desire to take a move as long as valuation has been reached. Clearly club thought this represented good value.

For the fee it’s not the biggest granted but with 12 months left in the summer what could we realistically have expected.

I would think with Duffy and Dunk back fit, and given Burn has really got his head down for us, from no appearances under Hughton, to playing left back / wing back, centre half, a model pro whether in or out of the team, that the club has taken this decision to suit the wishes of the player rather than their own.

There are times when you have to take a player to task and keep them such as we did with Stephens, then other times you have someone like Dan Burn in your office asking for the move and he’s just been such a reliable likeable guy, you accept the request and let them go. Perhaps it helps with harmony and team spirit that players know the club will be reasonable with them. Maybe.

Not going to lie. Gutted with this as I love BDB

If it was anyone but Newcastle he would have stayed.

I don’t think we could deny him the opportunity.
