When Roz and I were campaigning on behalf of the Seagulls Party to get the Lewes Lib Dems to reverse their policy on resisting the stadium at Falmer, we were invited by Jason Sugarman, then the prospective Tory candidate for the Lewes constituency, to attend a lunchtime drinks and nibbles event out at Wivelsfield to discuss ways to defeat the Lib Dems.
Among the guests was Vera Lynn, who turned out to be very pleasant company. But she failed to convert either of us to the cause of the Conservative Party. She did, however, bear a remarkable similarity in appearance to my mother, even down to her choice of cardigans.
