After sorting through by selection of broken lights (including stupidly expensive makes like Cateye) I splashed out on a

Pellor Waterproof 4 Mode 1200 Lumen CREE XML T6 LED Bicycle Outdoor Sports Light Headlight...
Sold by Kldeals £30 inclusive (this is more than the bike cost).

I am waiting delivery.

Before the arrival of this new item:
For a front light I am using a LED headlight fastened to the handlebars with a plastic clip for hauling tarpaulins down. These front lights work (and I have only broken one of them) but at not much good to see where you are going.

I am bit puzzled why none of the bike lights work for long, none are waterproof so any rain, then kaput. The clips and fastenings break easily (like bakelite).

Dynohub bikes are quite good, so good they get nicked. Anybody solved the bike light quandery?

I am looking for a new light, let us know how it goes, it looks better than what I have got..

BTW, you could have got this for £29.68 on Amazon and gone through NSC..

It has not arrived yet. I thought the expected date of arrival was a bit soon.

I use wind-up bike lights. Cheap to buy on Amazon, great light output, eco-friendly, no more battery costs, compact and lightweight and easy to attach/detach. I've been using my current set for about four years without a single problem.

Based on Brighton cyclists I just assumed bicycle lights weren't manufactured anymore.

My lights at the moment except I only paid £2 for it. Quite good except a bit fell off the last one and then it was kaput. Only enables me to be seen, not to see where I am going.

Bought front and back lights from Poundland for.........£1each yesterday as they are just cheap and if some toe rag steals them I won't be broken hearted.
As they never seem to last long anyway it seemed to make sense. I'll let you know how long they last.

Based on Brighton cyclists I just assumed bicycle lights weren't manufactured anymore.

And they have the temerity to get all irate when cars pull out on them from sidestreets, due to their non-visibility

Make it a £20 on-the-spot fine for not having lights on bikes

I've got this light (albeit sold under a different brand name and bought via eBay) and its superb. I use it for a 15 mile partially unlit commute throughout the winter and there's nothing to touch it for brightness. Battery is a bit vulnerable to water, so double bag it in sandwich bags and cable ties before venturing out. Just be a bit careful on full beam and flashing mode - it's bright enough to cause oncoming motorists to flash, so keep it dimmed where appropriate. Enjoy!

Just arrived now. Well packaged. Not sure how to attach it to the bike yet?

Charging up. I don't know how long.

It works. Charging less than 3 hours. Probably worth a buy as an emergency light. Powerful enough to see where you going.

No obvious way to fit it to the bike. Batteries should be easy enough, but I will have to think up something to secure the light securely.

Lights fit in with the elastic band which , initially, does not seem too bad at all, once I had worked how to do it. As all the other fixings for bike lamps are naff (in practice) I'll see how this one works.

Although it says it is waterproof, I have never found a cheap light yet that is. So taking it off and one is imperative. Review says the lamp runs very hot (to be tested)

This is for cycling without street lamps when there may be hazards (but not for cross-country mountain biking) and OTT for cycling around town and down the pub. Then the pound shop may have the best deal. These cheap lamps keep breaking, but so do expensive ones.
