Cutting Wage Bill

So theres been alot of talk of cutting wage bills one reason why we nearly lost Kuipers (which i personally think would be a disaster) so Ihave been thinking who we could get rid of.

Robbie Pethick- nothing player constantly making errors needs to go.

David Lee- This bloke does not seem to have what it takes for Div 2.

Rehmann- send him back hes nothing special Hammond, Harding or Wilkinson could do a better job, show some faith in our youngsters Mcghee

Geoff Pitcher- I hear he still plays for us but he never makes the bench he is either out on loan or doing nothing just get rid of him if you dont want him why do we hang onto players like this.

If we want to be ambitiious and bring new blood in some are gonna have to leave..... NOW. It will save us some money and could mean some decent loan signings the first of this season.( excluding yeates )

Last but not least Rivaldo is on a free everyone puts a pound in we could probably afford his left foot for a week

problem is lee (thanks taylor you twat) pethick and pitcher are all contracted cant just get rid. wilkinson has left the club. Personally wouldnt be too aggrieved to see fdm leave, he just cant kick and it costs us goals.

Hmm, you've not seen him play for a while have you. FDM has got over his kicking problems and you'll be a in a minority if you think that we can afford to let him go.

I think Pethick is a waste, too prone to calamitous errors and can't cut it at this level.

Let's face it, if we're being ruthless there are a number of players who are either past it, not going to make it or never were "it" in the first place.

Pitcher, Lee for starters, then Watson appears to have had his day, Oatway never impresses apart from charging around like a headless chicken (we need more than character and great comedy impressions); Harding, Marney, Hammond etc need to either kick on now or move out. And so on. Hammond can't even get in Leyton Orient's team at the moment! What's Virgo doing with himself? Nathan Jones? The aforementioned Pethick?

That's 10 players who haven't got the necessary cutting edge. Can't we say to a few, here's a free transfer, go and sort yourself out now before the end of the season when you're competing against hundreds of other released players??

Totally agree with this comment, the players generally command respect from the Albion fans, but if they can't do it then they need to move on, do yourselves a favour guys, move on, get a 3rd or second division club where you can excell, there's no shame in it, it's sadder to see you slogging it out here, on loan at orient or farnborough, or just knocking it about in the reserves.

All the best to you, but I think it's time to realise where you should be.

But it just doesn't work like that...

Step #1 - we offer a player a free contract. Two things can happen.

Step #2a - no-one comes in for a particular player - so we are stuck with them. They are under contract that we would have to pay up completely to get rid of them.

Step #2b - a team comes in and is interested in the player. Two things can happen here.

Step #3a - terms are agreed and the player leaves, free-ing up valuable playing budget or, more likely:

Step #3b - terms can not be agreed - the player is on a good wage at the Albion and A.N.Other team will not come close to matching it. The player decides not to move, as he'll keep taking the better wage whilst he can.

I think with most of the players discussed #3b will be the result. The exception is some of the youngsters who want to get on with playing football.

its DICK TIGHTS fault he scrapped the scouts and the system ages ago when we could relly on sum talent coming here now we have to relly on wot? the likes of David lee give me strength the guys a muppett on the football field, i wood like to see us offer much shorter tem contrcats to play and lets see if they are up to it maybe five games a handful thats alll should be enough to sort the David Camerons out from the David Lees!

Who should go.

1. Guy Butters

Controversial maybe? If the rumours are true though and he is one of the highest earners then he should go imo. We have young players who can take his place.

2. Geoff Pitcher

I would like to see him make it but as it is he has made no impact.

3. David Lee

Why would Pitcher or Lee want to leave?

They earn good money that would not be matched elsewhere. Wouldn't be surprised if they could not find another league club anyway.

If we start letting players go we aren' going to have a reserve team which is needed to partially blood some of the youngsters into playing with first team level players.
To me that is not an option.

Am I missing something here. Are you lot seriuosly saying we should ditch half the team cos we lost an LDV fans game. This is all a bit pie in the sky. For all the their faults they've still got us to third in the table.

Not because of the LDV game, just because there are a few players who never get in the first team, and are clearly not good enough, not to mention having no incentive to even try and do anything about it, therefore we might as well get rid, free up some of the wage bill, and see if we could get anyone in who might prove useful in the promotion race.

You can't say the likes of Pethick, Lee or Pitcher are responsible for getting us to third in the table!

Did you not read what I put above?!?

Just how does part of the wage bill get released - there is every chance we could not get rid of many players because either:

a) No-one wants them, or

b) Someone wants them but won't pay anywhere near what we are paying them, meaning the player is likely to stay put to keep pulling in a decent wage for as long as possible.

They are on contracts - you can't just cut them loose at will.
