Completely pointless thread, but at this point, we have an unusually high proportion of players born on January 1:

Shane Duffy: Jan 1, 1992
Mahmoud Dahoud: Jan 1, 1996
Enock Mwepu: Jan 1, 1998
Simon Adingra: Jan 1, 2002

The most common mean period for birthdays is late September. The least common is late December. Clearly not many folk want a birth to get in the way of their carnal Christmas activities.

Professional sportsmen are disproportionately born in the earlier part of the year.

This is because under age year groups tend to run by calendar year and if you’re a kid born in January you have developed significantly more than your peers born in December in the same year group.

Makes you wonder how many great talents have been lost because they were autumn babies and dropped in favour of more developed kids just a few months older than them.

There's a possibility with Dahmoud and possibly Adingra it's not necessarily their actual birthday. With refugees and people without docs you give them the dob 1-1-whatever year gives them the dob they say they are

This isn’t the case for, at least, for football in the UK as it’s run on school years. I presume the rest of the world is the same.

“Age groups run as per the school year, so a player born on 1st September would be the oldest in your team.”

A few years into teaching in East London I thought it remarkable how many kids were born on January 1st. Then I realised they were all refugees.

Isn’t there something a bit dodgy with Adringa or Sima, where his own agent dated him a few years old than we claim he is in an old interview ?
