I’ve never understood why the council have pushed so hard for city status, surely it would still be a London borough so wouldn’t have complete control of council tax revenue, Policing numbers ect I’m sure there would be some benefits but I’d rather they put more effort and focus on crime prevention and investment rather than wasting their time on this ‘London’s third city’ bullshit seems to be more about the powers that be feeling compelled to leaving their legacy on the area.

I used to get sent to Croydon fairly often in a previous job. Honestly, Croydon is the biggest shithole I've ever been to in my life, I used to live in Hull*. The thought of it being a city is hilarious.

*Which isn't as bad as it's reputation by a long way, I'm just (ab)using its name for effect.
