I like cats but i do think there are too many and they cause a lot of damage to wildlife. I live in Woodingdean and would like to see semi rural areas like it to be cat free, restricting them to more urban areas. I am not advocating some cat killing spree just a rethink on ownership which would be introduced over time.

There's too many of everything. Cars certainly, people too. Cats are pretty low down on the list

Personally, I love cats and miss the one we had until he died during lockdown but now make do with petting next door's (too fat to chase anything) and watching cute cat videos on Instagram. There are more birds in our garden as a result.

In the past 19 years, I’ve had seven cats (bringing 3 with me) and have 3 now. In all that time, there has been 1 dead robin, and two dead mice, between the whole lot of them. Magpies kill more small birds than cats.
I get birds in my garden because I have a beech hedge, and the birds love flitting in and out of it. My cats sit and watch them through the window.
Concreting over gardens, and removing trees/shrubs does more to harm wildlife than cats.

Someone should start a thread on fake grass and farming to feed our meat habit. They're well above cats, cats are rubbish in comparison - need to step up and stop lounging around.

Perhaps a league table of environment damaging issues and we could knock them off one by one.

Edit, a lot of feral cats could be dealt with by neutering, although in Britain we do have a native Wild Cat in Scotland. All of mine are neutered.
