Its so, so frustrating watching England. We appear to lose the will to bat after 10 overs. We have a poor captain, who at the moment needs too long to get in. As for Foster all his done for his speciality status is one stumping(which Prior should have achieved anyway if playing) and as for his batting can he hit it off the wicket. Bloody useless!! Todays pitch should have netted 180 minimum.

They're certainly missing Prior.

Target is 80 from 9 overs.

Need to play at least 5 overs. If they don't get them in then it's match abandoned and England are out on net run rate. If the game is stopped between 5 and 9 overs it's Duckworth/Lewis.

This could go either way.

Can anyone explain the Duckworth/Lewis method in a way that my 10 year old would understand ?

I'll try, although I'm not sure I fully understand it!

It's done to try and work out what a team's score would be if they were playing a full game, a predicted score if you like.

At the beginning of each over a total will be published of what the batting side will need at the end of that over to win/ be ahead. If the batting side lose a wicket the total will go up so it changes all the time.

No idea, but here's the aim!!!!

From TMS: Frank Duckworth (he of statistics-based, rain-affected mathematical formula fame), TMS inbox: "If WI have just 5 overs the target will be 47 and they can lose as many wickets as they like."

Unfortunately there isn't one, it's all done using complex calculations, and a table of average figures (runs per wickets).

Basically, I think it compares a combination of England's average run rate, number of overs WI have, how many runs England where on at that many overs, and how many wickets WI have remaining. Then, they throw it all into a calculation, and get a figure...

:nono:
