A football club and nightclub tycoon suffered serious injuries after crashing his Porsche.
Azwar Majeed, owner of Crawley Town Football Club, was driving on Saturday when he crashed his yellow Porsche 911 at a notorious blackspot on the A23 at Pyecombe.
The car smashed through a barrier and down the side of a ditch, rolling over several times before finally coming to a halt in a field.
Firefighters freed Mr Majeed from the car using hydraulic cutters and he was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where he was being treated yesterday.
Last night Mr Majeed's brother Chas said his family had been constantly at Azwar's bedside at the hospital where his condition was described last night as "stable".
He described his brother's injuries as serious but not life-threatening and said he would pull through.
It is understood that Mr Majeed suffered broken shoulders, legs and ribs during the crash, which happened around 4.45pm.
Chas Majeed said: "He was driving back along the road when it absolutely hammered it down with rain.
"It was really bad weather and he just lost control. That part of the road is really bad from what I've heard and there have been a lot of crashes there.
"The car rolled down the bank at the side of the road and rolled over a lot of times.
"Azwar is okay. He is conscious and all the family have been at the hospital helping him through it. He'll be fine."
The Majeed brothers also own Saqqara bar in North Street, Brighton, and Ja Ja Bar in Crawley.
Azwar Majeed owns a £1.4 million flat above Saqqara bar. There has been a series of serious crashes on the A23 around Pyecombe including the horror smash in May 2004 when eight were killed at Newtimber, when a car carrying five people crashed over the central reservation and into another in the northbound lane.
In October 2003 a 19-year-old man was killed when his Nissan skidded off the southbound carriageway north of the A27 junction and former Albion striker Lee Steele suffered facial and head injuries after crashing his car near Pyecombe in December 2001.
In September last year a ten-car pile-up caused five-mile tailbacks during rush hour. The drivers escaped with minor injuries.
In June last year a man travelling in a minibus carrying 15 people, including adults with learning difficulties, was killed when it crashed on the A23 at Pyecombe.
Chas Majeed said the accident would not affect Crawley Town Football Club or its finances.
The club faces a meeting with creditors at the Broadfield Stadium on January 16 over debts it owes to former players and staff.
Mr Majeed said: "It's going to be business as usual. Azwar will be back on his feet soon."
