there was always the excuse that no decent teams would come to withdean, but I assume that after this year when its all bedding in, we will get some decent friendlies in the future and not the likes of Bognor and Worthing!

I would love to see a good European side..Staua Bucharest was a brilliant game.

The thing is you have to give them half the gate, so you have to get a decent crowd to make it worth their while. Home friendlies don't really interest me but I'll go to away friendlies to visit a new ground / day out on the piss.

I don't think it is set in stone at a certain percentage, but yes, I realise we probably give them a fee.

Not quite the same as a money-spinning tour of the Far East mind. I would imagine most clubs want some half decent opposition in the run-up to the season.

I doubt, for example, we sponge cash off Whitehawk or Worthing...

The worthing friendly was always because they let our ressies play there and in return we played a friendly there and they kept all the gate.

Maybe I dreamt the "half the gate" figure then, but it is usually financially beneficial to both teams.

My 'sauces' tell me that we are trying to secure a friendly with Benfica in Albufeira, although they are unable to commit because of Champions League qualification ties at the same/similar time? Not sure how true that is mind!
