Agree with all of this. Except the bit about Reigate, where I also live. Seriously, what bit of Reigate would you be concerned about visiting?

I mostly agree with him too. Having worked in Reigate however I think it was the least threatening place I have ever been to, unless you're scared of expensive delis and Dorises parking their Chelsea Tractors on double yellows. Oh, and the sixth formers queuing up at Morrisons could be a bit annoying.

Back to the point. I wonder how many people comparing Crawley with a third world country have actually been to one for any length of time? I bet goldstone hasn't.

Neither of them are particularly threatening places in reality. But I am curious, whereabouts in Reigate do you consider threatening?

It's very probably just me being paranoid but I don't feel comfortable in the Red Cross or the Bulls Head or with the groups of kids that hang round outside J J Whispers.
During the day the town is fine and can be quite charming but I feel there's a bit of an atmosphere after dark.

I'm not involved in these comparisons, but having driven from Harare to Kariba, recently, some of the places en route were a bit grim, not to mention the police stopping you every 10 miles or so and demanding a dollar before you could go on your way. Haven't had that when I've driven through Crawley.

The Red Cross is full of soppy VI formers! I rarely go in the Bulls Head. When mentioning dodgy Reigate pubs, the Angel at Woodhatch is surely the worst as that is where the pikeys go when they rock up in their caravans.

And the main problem with JJ Whispers is not that it is threatening, it's that it is shite.

I hate Crawley !!

Has got worse as a place, have friend who lives in ifield. ( close to where someone was burnt alive inside a car boot )

We joke about the troubles Crawley has, he calls Crawley his ghetto!

The car ended up in Crawley.

But he says you call Crawley a s..it hole, well you should live in broadwater , Worthing that's worse then Crawley.

All parties involved were from London. Nothing to with Crawley apart from that's where they left the car. Blimey I could goo into detail about some of the incidents recently in Eastbounre but I won't stoop that low

Crawley is a dump. When people say that they mean the town centre. Most of the examples in simsters response are either not in the town center, ie the IMAX, or a bit vacuios.3train stations? 2 of them are not in Crawley.

I would feel safer drinking in Redhill than creepy crawley. If people had to define reasons an English town is an English town then one of them is tha English is widley spoken and heard. In fact theres plenty of English people in it.

So waiting as well for LI to take the definition of Racism to knew levels of stupidity.

Wrong.
Ifield train station is in Crawley.
Three Bridges train station is in Crawley.
Crawley train station is in Crawley.
Well, they were still in Crawley about an hour ago.I suppose they could have been stollen since though.

Do you know what, I walked through the town and was thinking exactly the same.
What a hole. The area up the Broadway is almost entirely boarded up fronts.
The point about the spoken language is so terribly sad, for all of us.I hadn't noticed this happening, but as sure as you say, it's true...hardly a home born person about.

Let's face it: if you're born in Crawley, you're not going to stay there are you.

Seems to be some sort of taken fact that Eastern Europeans = shithole.
Which, obviously, is complete bullshit.

No Iam correct and you cant move the goal posts to win arguments. You ignored the bit where I said, "When people say that they mean the town centre."

Ifield station is in Ifield, 3 bridges is in 3 bridges, they are not in the town centre.

The reasons why been stated, home shopping etc. The uncomfortable questions are "what kind ofrates are the council charging?" "What regen plans do they have?", "why are they sticking with a failing business model?"

In the centre I can think of 2 good shops, the olde sweet shop and the electric store CEX.All the rest is just rinsing money(coffee shops, phone shops) and here today gone tomorrow crap.

Not being in denial about the problem is the first step to finding a solution.

As people flood in they can just as easily be drained out again. To the exstent that it is a problem its more a tempoary one.We do get a referendum in a year or so for example.
