Crash in car park

They changed the system for parking coaches a couple of games back. It seems to fit more coaches into the parking area, but lining them up causes more than an occasional hazard. There'll be hell to pay if a reversing coach backs into a pedestrian.

To be fair a the speed they are going when reversing they are not going to hit anyone hard enough along with the "warning coach reversing" siren to hurt them. unlike motorcycles they just get knocked over and damaged.

So why is there not hell to pay for this incident ?

The "hell to pay" arises when the HSE get involved in the aftermath of an incident that involves injury to a person. They certainly wouldn't accept reversing beepers on a coach as being an adequate safety precaution in an area where people are free to walk about. At the very least, they'd want to know about the procedures that were in place to supervise reversing coaches and prevent collisions. Good practice in this area is well established and every coach driver should know what it is - as should the operator of premises where coach reversing occurs.

A crash into an unoccupied vehicle is an insurance job and not much more.

Ok fair point, Don't coaches have to have a banksman when reversing in car parks ?

Where poet's live.
It's the 3rd time mine has been crashed into whilst parked so know how you feel.

Once on street outside my house by next door neighbour, once in a pub car park where luckily somebody else saw and told me, and now this. My tank got dented in first one and was 600 quid for a replacement!

Find it remarkable that certain car drivers seem not to be able to see bikes.

I've be looking into getting my tank repaired, Thinking that dentmagician might be able to work his magic. Seen some youtube vids on how he would go about it. So hopfully that will save me a few £££. Theres no way I'm going to buy a new tank. Got quoted £550. Not worth that sort of cash when It's probably going to happen again somtime down the line. Not the first time it's gone over for me too. Had someone push it over in the night, probably some drunk thinking it would be funny. And one night last winter when we had some strong gales. I should really start buying my mirrors in bulk!

Just in case any of you who posted in this thread care, I finally got my motorbike back today 2 months after it was crashed back to in the Amex.

All paid for by the coach's insurance company.

Am very pleased to have my beloved VFR back.

Excellent news. And I've noticed at recent games that the stewards have been a lot more proactive about helping coach drivers make safe reversing movements while parking up. On Saturday, I saw one of the stewards give a coach driver a right bollocking about not following his signals.

Apart from the happy ending for 00snook, this starts to answer so many of those how "difficult can it be questions ?" My general impression is that the stewarding has moved on greatly from basic crowd control and that they are starting to work more effectively as a coordinated unit.

I wanted to ride my bike to the AMEX.....I asked the club before the season began where motorbikes would be allowed to park and was advised that this would be in the coach park. I queried this at the time saying that reversing coaches and particularly pissed off away fans kicking bikes over was a likely possibility causing damage to much loved machines but was given the brush off. I asked about the possibility of parking in the smaller car park over the rail bridge (as I'd noticed push and motorbikes parking there on non match days) but was told this wasn't an option......sooooooo I don't ride my bike there......shame really as its a convenient way to get to the game. By the by does anyone know if there is motorbike parking in the uni that could be used on match days?

Since you want to bring up the most unreasonable argument for parking from the club, I'm not surprised they gave you the "brush off"!
They have a bicycle area for you, and you bring up the worst scenario. :nono:

Chain it to someone's garden fence in Moulsecoomb, that's a better plan, or hang it off the footbridge from The Swan.

Hardly surprising that you are not able to use the 'over the bridge' car park on match days, with thousands of pedestrians on the perimeter of the stadium!!

I must admit the stewards and the club have been spot on in helping me with this.

It was hardly their fault that the coach driver reversted. I just am very grateful that it was only my bike that got hit, and not somebody walking behind the coach.

Then there really would be problems.

Half of the bikes park on the coach side, but if you arrive later Baz you are usually directed to the opposite side on the sort of pavement near where the cars drive out of the car park there.

If you are concerned about safety this may be a better place for you to park your bike.

To be honest I am sure this was a one off incident.

As for away fans, I doubt this will ever be an issue. After we lost to Palace I had a drink in the North stand then wandered up. My bike was all on its own and surrounded by palace fans singing and cheering. When I turned up they surrounded me giving me plenty of banter about the game, but it was all good natured.

If you left straight after full time then there are plenty of people getting on their bikes then and I can't see them being maliciously damaged during the game as the stewards are in the coach park.

Glad you got it back all sorted.

Agree with all this, and as said if worried do as i do and park directly behind a lamppost for extra protection.
