Without knowing the bloke, it is the sort of comment that could be made by the ignorant, rather than the hateful. In his mind he may be thinking he could have said young players or senior players and no one would be kicking off about him being ageist. Maybe I am being naive but I hope it is just ignorance.

Yes, you are being naive.

According to ramstalk posters, in fairness they’ve largely condemned Ramage, he’s not the brightest, his phone-ins based on ever more controversial comments. Sounds like it was only a matter of time before he slipped up.

If it is just ignorance then the Anti Racism ''Kick it Out'' Campaigns are definitely not working.

Was he under a rock when Raheem Sterling was racially abused ? Was he under a rock when it was headline news when England Players were racially abused in Bulgaria ? Ignorance is no defence in this day and age. And most certainly not if you are working in the Media and for an Organisation such as the BBC

It is a racist comment, not racial abuse. I don't want to be defending the bloke for making a racist comment, I just hope it was in ignorance of it being a racist comment, rather than because he has racial hatred. It is not racist to crticise each of the black players individually at Derby for being too cocky, but to criticise them as a group of "black players" is, I understand that, my hope is that he did not, but now does.

Incredibly naive.

In his head black men are lazy. You don't just come out with something like by accident.

Surprised he didn't follow it up with 'They don't like it when it gets cold'. The stupid tw*t.

Does the "ignorant old bullies of this world" include the generation (now in their 60s and 70s) of white kids that marched with Martin Luther King, or in this country faced baton charges and mounted police charges in London and Manchester to stop the South African rugby and cricket tours, eventually isolating S.A. from international sport and eventually the end of apartheid?

Just asking for a friend ..................................

Obviously not

Apologies for unintentional ageism.

I'm usually on these threads saying what you're saying but in this case there's no excuse. What he's saying is probably true, but there's cocky young footballers from every race.

There was literally no reason to bring race into it. I think Weststander and clapham_gull nailed it - he's dropped his guard without thinking and allowed his prejudice to slip out.

I think this is way worse than big Ron dropping the N word.
