I saw a story about young Charlie Doherty on BBC. He had cycled from Brighton to Glasgow for charity and is only 11.
I wrote about him on my blog here: http://sweatshoptachinardi.blogspot.com/2011/08/charlie-doherty-what-proper-little.html
He has not had a Christmas or birthday present since he was four, instead asking for money and giving it to charity.
So far he has raised almost £25,000.
I contacted the club and asked if they wanted a feature on him for the programme and whether they could give him a new shirt as he never lets anyone buy him one, instead giving the money away.
Well, take a bow Brighton. After today's game Gus Poyet came out to the dug-out, where Charlie and his family had been taken and presented him with a new top and made a real fuss of him and his cousin.
He also met Charlie Oatway, Lewis Dunk, Gary Dicker, his favourite player Marcos Painter and Craig Mackail-Smith.
Then, we saw Craig Noone outside so I explained about what Charlie had been doing and he posed for a lovely photo, gave him an autograph and then, when I said about him giving up presents, he proceeded to pull out his shirt from the match and give him that.
Noone came across as a lovely fella who was genuinely interested in the lad.
I think things like this that happen at the club should be shouted from the rooftops.
BIG thanks to Insider for arranging Gus and the shirt.
Nooney. What a legend.
Brighton: brilliant on and OFF the pitch.
