Ollie Rayner, our new all-rounder. He's basically Michael Yardy, but with a smile.

Sussex have made a formal approach to speak to Warwickshire all rounder Rikki Clarke.

Clarke is out of contract at the end of the season and Sussex have informed Warwickshire of their desire to talk to the former England international about a potential move to Hove.

The 29-year-old made two Test appearances in 2003 and featured in 20 ODIs but has not played for his country since 2006. He has been in impressive form for Warwickshire this season, taking 33 wickets and scoring 350 runs at an average just under 27.

Coach Mark Robinson said: “He is an outstanding cricketer and played very well against us at Arundel recently but all this does is puts us in a position to talk to Rikki.”

Look, it's sad for Yardy and Trescothick they've got clinical depression, yes it is a serious medical condition and I hope they both get better, but does this mean we have to get all precious about it? Both guys are still managing to hold a bat and make a decent living out of the game, it's not as if they're at death's door.

If I had to make a list of players I would want to see playing for Sussex, I would have to go a very very long way down before I got to Rikki Clarkes name. Infact I would rather play with 10 players. Poor player with a poor attitude.

I listened to Trescothick on BBC5Live special introduced by Vaughan with regard to depression in sport. Marcus came across as very grounded and accepting of his condition, and said he is happy to take a bit of banter from team mates etc. I read your initial post regarding being like Yardy but with a smile, as being quite funny, and would hope that despite suffering the condition, it's the kind of thing that wouldn't offend, and even if said to Yardy might make him smile himself. It's a condition they have to come to terms with, not hide from.

I heard the same interview BS. I'm sure the banter helps to bring some grounding and normality to Trescothick. It would be awful if he felt other players were tiptoeing around him.

You see documentaries about soldiers who have lost limbs and see how piss-taking and banter still goes on and forms part of the recovery process.
