Is this one of SC's targets and is he any good?
See the bit below about Div 2 clubs
Northern Ireland international Michael Hughes is optimistic that his year-long nightmare which has prevented him from finding a club is set to end.
Hughes did not play any club football last season because of a disagreement between Birmingham City and Wimbledon.
However, the winger is currently training with Crystal Palace and he has told the BBC that he is confident he will sign for a club before the start of the new season.
Hughes has already had offers from a number of Nationwide Division Two clubs but he is holding out hope of landing a move to a Division One or perhaps even a Premiership outfit.
The fact that he is training with Palace will inevitably lead to suspicion that he may sign for the Eagles although Hughes is remaining tightlipped on the issue.
"I'll definitely have a club for the start of next season," Hughes told the BBC.
"I don't want to appear big-headed but I know that I'm going to be involved with a club in some capacity".
Living off donations
The Northern Ireland winger joined Birmingham on loan in March 2002, believing he had an agreement on a permanent three-year deal if the club got promoted to the Premiership.
However, an ankle injury forced Hughes to return to Wimbledon after just three games for the St Andrews club.
The Midlands club then told Hughes the three-year deal was no longer valid because he had not completed the loan spell.
Neither club paid him last season which saw him forced to live off donations from the PFA's benevolent fund.
Confusion over which club held his registration prevented him from signing for another club but Hughes has now been advised that he will be able to sign for another outfit.
