Unless you're reasonably fit, you DO have to be motivated. Run it for REMF, I'll sponsor you for sure.

I reckon you can do it  it'll be the making of you.

As it happens I'm going to be a single man for a year so might consider something similar myself.

I must be a muppet , you will be wearing a Brighton shirt Kev and getting cheered and applauded and I will be wearing a Palace shirt and being egged and spat at. It is after all the BRIGHTON marathon. :lolol::down:

Anyone that wants to join the REMF team for Brighton 2011, pm me. We can arrange get togethers, training runs and updates. I feel it will help others to do it as a group. We would need to start in about October. I intend to start my campaign this month.

I've voted yes. It's a fantastic idea and would give you something positive to focus on. I think the knowledge you were running the marathon would be the inspiration for ditching the fags and make quitting easier. Especially as you'd be able to see the benefits of quitting in your overall fitness levels, and measurable in the increased distances you'd be able to run week on week

Do it.

If people can do it today in giant foam suits and I saw some elderly folk cross the line then I'm damn sure you can do it.

I did a rubbish time but the feeling of achievement was immense, the fact for six months I've trained for yesterday and along with the crowds made it all worthwhile.

Have a go GG i trained for months ran 13 miles 5 times, but didn't train more than 18 miles and it hurt me. Hitting that wall is not nice I did approaching Wish Road so whatever way I looked at it I was 3 miles from home, or 8 miles from the finish.

Gareth, there were people finishing at 4.30pm. You can beat that surely!!!

Really bless em .We saw a red runner as we walked back to the pier at 4.15 on the pavement as they had reopened the road.

If you want REMF to be involved in the marathon as an official charity (i.e. do it properly, reap the benefits of being an official charity and maximise your fund raising-as Argus charity of the year you are in a good position to get on board) you have, I believe, until this coming Friday to apply for 2011 status.

You will then get a set of 'gold bond' entries. These are the 'raise a set amount and you can run' entries. Do not give these to anyone you know..otherwise you will cannibalise the fund raising. Give these to unknowns. There are ways and means to do this. It's a national event and I guess demand will be even higher next year, it wont be difficult to get shot of the gold entries. Then round up all the people you do know and get them to run for you as well.....but not on gold tickets.

This is all standard marathon fund raising stuff, which has been done time and time again including at yesterday's race. I'm sure the organisers will give you further pointers.

You'll make a tidy sum.

This information has been given for free.

Do it US. I was watching yesterday (near the lock gates, so very close to you) and thought it was inspiring. Unfortunately, earlier this year, i was told that I had worn out the cartilage in my right knee and had to give up football, squash and running whilst still only a whippersnapper of 49.

So give it your best while you still have the chance, and I'll be there cheering you through the power station turn next year.

Still 5 days to vote. The REMF team is coming together with 5 people so far. Let me know if you want to join the team. I will be applying to try to get one of the charity slots for the REMF this week.
