Doubt it. More likely to have restrictions put on alcohol sales in away end.

I wouldn't be too complacent about this. In legal circles, Brighton & Hove are recognised as having one of the toughest licensing committees in England and Wales and if the police get fed up with dealing with alcohol-related incidents near the Amex it's entirely possible that there will be a recommendation for draconian measures, up to and including a complete ban.

Not saying that's what WILL happen - just that we should never assume that it can't.

I can't see why it should, but we might end up having to ban alcohol sales for away fans and stop them coming in the home concourses afterwards, which I think would be a pity. In the short term, if that made the Amex less attractive to away fans, I suppose we could offset the loss in drink sales by having more tickets for home fans, but would the extra demand always be there? I think this is a worst-case scenario, though. Presumably, the authorities will have noted that nearly every game has taken place without any trouble. In my view though, putting high-profile games on a Tuesday evening (apparently Palace was requested, Millwall and Cardiff were what the fixtures computer gave us) is a mistake. Those set on trouble will take a half-day off work and go drinking. The best time would be 12:00 on a Sunday, however inconvenient that was for the rest of us, before the pubs open, and a restricted away allocation, perhaps by a members-only system at the away club.

That's working under the assumption that the problems were drink-related. This is Millwall we're talking about, the problems are more likely to be oxygen-related.

And seeing as the police are part of the whole licensing set-up, they would be damning themselves for failure to implement appropriate measures...

I'm surprised anywhere in West Street can sell alcohol if that's the case.

Indeed, although West Street is so full of drinking establishments it's not always possible to associate a problem with a particular venue.

The Amex is more isolated and the possibility exists for the police to "take a view" on whether alcohol sales should be curtailed in some way, and their recommendations are bound to be taken seriously by the committee. In fact I think there's a compulsion to act upon police advice, unless a convincing argument is made against their recommendations.

As to the point about the police's involvement in the licensing set-up: the police have a say in all licensing applications, especially something as big as the Amex, but that doesn't mean they can't change their minds once a venue has had time to prove it can sell drinks responsibly and without causing a public nuisance. They do this all the time, which is why so many licences do get suspended or revoked.

Again - I'm not saying the Amex is in danger of losing its drinks licences. All I'm pointing out is that in theory it could happen, and we happen to be in a part of the country where the licensing authorities are generally regarded as being pretty severe by national standards.

if they don't drink at the ground they drink on way to it...many i time I've seen fans tanking up as they are walking to the ground and lobbing the cans into roadside vegetation...this will only increase if ground sales are restricted

I can see where Rev is coming from on this and for the higher-profile matches for away fans then it might be an option. We don't want to go back to the dark days of the eighties with fans treated as scum but if they behave like scum then....
