I love how Coppell operates.

Win 3-1 away first game of the season. First time we've beaten Oldham away since 1979. Both new strikers that he's brought in score goals and...

He's not impressed and if we carry on playing like that, we're not going to get very far.

Nice!! Keeps the players' feet firmly on the ground and lets them know that he expects more.

Yeah good stuff from SC. Don't let the players or fans get carried away with one result.

Fine work SC.
However i think he was genuine with his comments, by all accounts we didnt play very well.
Im sure those who went would agree.
Good signs if we can play average and win though.

We didn't play well, we did enough, but if we had played as we could/should have we would be top of the league on Goal difference IMHO. Saying that big plus points for me Chris McPhee and even bigger was Hinshelwood. Top day though.

It was so difficult in that heat and players were running out of steam.

All he has said is that he wasn't completely satisfied with the team's performance, but then went on to say it was a great 3 points in difficult conditions.

He's a good man manager as well as a football manager and will know how to get the best out of every player

I just pray we don't draw 0-0 with QPR

Are QPR going to have a season like Coventry last year if we do:nono:

Coppell is a great manager, but possibly the most depressed sounding man in the game.

If we won the Champions League, beating Real Madrid with a 94th minute Gary Hart header, Coppell would say

"well, the lads have done quite well under the circumstances, but we can't afford to enjoy it too much, as there's plenty of work to be done before next season. I'm reasonably pleased with the way things have gone so far, but you can never rest on your laurels, and all this means is that other teams will inevitably raise their game even further against us in the future. All I'm thinking about is our next game in three months time"

Meanwhile, behind Coppell, Bob Booker is seen dancing on the top of the San Siro dug outs, waving a champagne bottle and dressed in only a Freddie Mercury moustache.

I think SC is spot-on, and keeping everyone grounded is exactly the right thing to do.

Am i alone in thinking that the win at Burnley last season actually did us damage because we thought we could play at that level, and by the time we realised we couldn't we could hardly address the slide. I felt we gained too much confidence from that result, something SC would NEVER let happen.

Top man

oh I think Coppell does a great job, I really do.

I just like the idea however, that just for once, he might let go and celebrate a win by ripping off his shirt, whirling it around his head and bounding across the pitch, David Pleat style, shouting "get in there you f*****g beauty!".

You never know, it might happen. They say it's the quiet ones you have to watch....

He always sounds drunk to me. He does have more of the MA in him than Taylor/Hinchlewood did, after yesterday Hinch would have predicted the champonship for the next 3 years!!

We don't have the problem like last year of thinking we can play at this level but failing - we KNOW we can play at this level with success. The current squad is fairly unchanged from the champions of 2001 with some improvements.

Bring on QPR.

I think Coppell actually hates the interview itself. He doesn't look comfortable doing press interviews and I think he dreads that part of his job.

I get the impression he is never happier than when he has his tracksuit on down the training field

Just read in my Guardian guide to the season that SC was 7/2 joiint favourite to become England manager after Graham Taylor quit. Not got much to do with Saturday but shows what sort of class he's in.

Can't think of another manager, including MA, that I would rather see here. If it had come about that we'd kept BZ and lost SC rather than the other way round, I would be far more concerned about our future.
