Coppell pleased with 10-man display
Steve Coppell admitted Brighton's 1-0 Carling Cup win at Bristol Rovers was lacking in style but was delighted with his 10-man side's display.
Nathan Jones was sent off in the 44th minute, but Albion recovered to reach the second round with a Chris McPhee overhead kick.
Coppell said: "I didn't enjoy playing the way we did in the second half, but it was a case of needs must after being reduced to 10 men.
"It seemed to me Nathan jumped in a bit with his tackle, but it wasn't over the top of the ball and I know him well enough to be convinced there was nothing intentional.
"I've got to be pleased with winning in those circumstances because that's always going to be a test for us and losing a man before half-time certainly didn't help."
