It was mentioned a while back (by DK I think) that all long term contract talks were off until the Falmer situation was resolved.

Dunno what that means for the Manager/Players, would thye be happy to do month to month contracts until a final decision? or would they jump ship as soon as their current contract ends?
Only they know but no doubt someone on NSC will know best....as ever :)

I see but

surely we could extend say 3 players contracts by a year purely as cover your arse tactics. Unless its the players presumably wanting longer deals than this

Does that mean theres a very real chance our better players could go for nothing at the end of the season ?

Yes ... and No

Any player under 24 is not eligible for a Bosman and so a tribunal would decide on a compensation value.

Factors that weigh into a tribunal valuation include

- length of time the player has been at the club (i.e. did the club develop him);

- how much the players current contract is at that club (i.e. wages - the bigger the salary the higher the valuation usually)

- whether the current club has offered the player a new contract or no (do they really wish to keep him, or are they offloading him anyway)

There are other factors as well, which would include international recongition and suchlike.

Any player 24 or over is eleigible for a bosman and can walk for nothing.

Tribunals are curious beasts. They can work both for and against you.

You may recall that Steve Coppell was looking to being in Steve Hunt from Brentford at the start of last season, only to be put off because he felt the tribunal would settle on a fee in excess of £100k and he only wanted to pay around 25k for him.

Other times you hear of clubs moaning that a tribunal settled on say £100k when they had previously turned down offers of £250k for the player in question.

So it's a bit of a lottery really.!

dont matter
As a worst case scenario:- if we are relegated and Falmer is a no no, who would we be left with, player wise? with 10 out of contract? and probably no manager again

Surely... we should offer the key players new contracts if at all possible, and hope they sign... even if we sell, we would then make more money...

Likewise, we would get compensation for MM... and not all are under 24...

Short-termism by the club again, IMHO...

None of the players you are talking about are going to accept pay cuts are they? Therefore we are unable to offer them contracts as the extra time on Falmer has depleted funds to the point where we cannot afford to match their current contracts.

Not short-termism just realism I'm afraid.

Alternatively we could offer them all nice long contracts to keep our best players. Just like Leeds did a couple of years ago.

Does this mean that season ticket renewals for next season arn't going to be sent out until 'Falmer is resolved' or will they be dropping on doormats with the Christmas post this year ???
