I was told off on the other thread for expressing reservations, so I will simply say 2 things.
1) I don't trust Johnson and Cummings at all.
2) The producers of the "NHS" app are directly linked to the Vote Leave campaign.
I don't want Cummings' cronys to have any access to my data, so unless things change I won't be downloading the app.
If the app had been produced openly, sandbox tested by trustworthy experts, and by a Cummings independent group then I would use it.
I hate giving away data to the powers that be as much as you, but how is this app any worse than anything you already got? Once your cellphone is on, everywhere you go and anything you do could be traced. Its not even a secret. The Vault 7 leaks even suggest that it could be done with your phone turned off.

Uninstall may will be an option, but don't bet on a "marker" being left on your phone. It's an app, right? You can install it for the short term for altruistic reasons for the common good. Then uninstall it as and when you see fit. Or not install it at all. People banging on about privacy issues don't think hmgov and its agencies aren't already monitoring exactly what they want to monitor? Dream on

However, does it satisfy human rights and data protection laws, I hope the government have done their homework on this, on the face of it a a decentralised system seems less risky in the face of legal challenges
Does seem we are the outlier again...
Some of the posts on this thread are beyond disbelief. Get off your highorse, stop with the pathetic teenage-like stubbornness and do whats right for everyone. Download the app and help the rest of us.
I like you have reservations only because tracking apps were already available but the Government were advised by the SAGE advisory group present at some of these meeting were Dominic Cummings and Marc Warner who is a data analyst working on Dominic Cummings team. Marc has a brother Ben Warner, who owns a data mining software company called Faculty IA who recruited by Dominic Cummings to run the data modelling for the Vote Leave Campaign.
SAGE with Cummings and Warner in attendance advised government to award Faculty IA a £280 million contract to write the NHS tracking App remember they are specialists in data mining and that tracing apps are already available.
I think a tracing App is a really good way to identify hot spots for the virus but Do I trust the Tories,Cummings or the Warner brothers to deliver this
How does it cost £280m to write an app?I like you have reservations only because tracking apps were already available but the Government were advised by the SAGE advisory group present at some of these meeting were Dominic Cummings and Marc Warner who is a data analyst working on Dominic Cummings team. It's a NO from me, and someone on their high horse demanding I download it aint gonna wash with me. There is something more sinister to the App in my view.

Not in a million years.
I am intrigued by the technology involved. All I can find is references to 'nearby' in relation to people. What exactly does this mean, and how does it work? Does it mean if your phone gets within two metres of another phone, the app is triggered / records the contact. Or is it 5m / 10m? Does it work through glass and so on (ie: you could be within 2m of someone, but totally shielded). What happens if you are on a different floor in the same building?
What concerns me is that a lot of people could pass within the chosen distance of an infected person, and then have to self-isolate - despite the chances of them becoming infected from that person being virtually minimal.
Totally agree and I work in IT/InfoSec as well. A lot of blind faith going on.Very much so... The blind trust displayed on this thread, whilst belittling anyone who challenges the concept of this app is worrying! I work in IT/Network security and understand the full implications of an app such as this. I'm not sure some of the folk here classing anyone who questions this app as a "tin foil hat" loony even know what they are talking about when it comes to technology, and just blindly trust what's presented to them.
To quote Benjamin Franklin: “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
