Contact Lenses

I've just got back from the Opticians, I now need to wear my glasses all the time, so I opted for contact lenses as well as my glasses.

I was wondering if anyone on here wears them and how long it takes to get used to them? My eyes keep watering and they do feel slightly uncomfortable, will this go or will I always 'feel' I've got them in? ???

I've worn contact lenses for 20 years... the ones I have now stay in for a whole month (including overnight) and are then thrown away. The only time I know they are there is for the first few minutes in the morning and very occasionally if they dry out a bit during the day (say watching cricket on a hot sunny day - which obviously hasn't happened this year!).

I would expect it to take a couple of weeks for your eyes to get used to them - and then, hopefully, you will hardly know they are there.

Hey, I wear daily disposable contacts every day. Took me a month or so before I could put them in easily (though that is apparently unusual)... Can't feel them at all now, unless I've had them in too long (more than about 12 hours)... Was advised not to get the monthly ones.

Thanks, so hopefully it's just getting used to them, then after they should be ok. Because, she said not everybody can wear them, I hope I can because I don't want to wear my glasses all the time. She recommended daily ones as I have glasses as well.

edit: 2 weeks / month really? I thought maybe a couple of days. Ok well that's good to know.

I've worn contact lenses for more than ten years now and I'm very rarely aware of them being in my eyes, only the odd occasion towards the end of the day when I've had them in all day.
It does take a bit of getting used to at first but stick with it, you won't regret it.

i used to wear daily disposables but i could never wear them all day, only for a few hours if i was going out.

i could always feel them, they weren't annoying but i knew they were there.

That's how they feel. But I haven't had them in long, so I'm hoping that will go.

I wear the daily ones and had very little problem at the start, but just might have been lucky.

I think they're brilliant. Don't feel them at all but, as others have said, they ocasionally feel a bit 'itchy' or dry later in the evening. It's a rare occurrence though.

The air-conditioning in a car, or particularly an aircraft, can make them get dryer a bit sooner, but you can always just take them out and replace them.

1-2 weeks the same ones and overnight?

Again, I think everyone is different.

My son wears exactly the same daily contacts as me and has no problem sleeping with them in.

However, on the odd occasion when I have fallen asleep without taking them out, my eyes have felt terrible in the morning - very itchy and bloodshot.

yep but this is only for the "one day" ones as they are very thin. i know a doctor who does the same. in fact i used to have problems with the monthly ones that you take out and clean each night and came to the conclusion that touching them with your fingers - even if only to clean them - was really not a good idea.

Just started wearing them a week ago. They aren't exactly the same as my prescription and i have an astigmatism which combined I think means they're not ideal but i'm certainly getting more used ot them.

As I just said on another thread, although I probably could I'm not too fussed about wearing them all the time so they're good enough for what I need them for. My biggest issue before was putting them in and taking them out but it's only taken 5 mins the last few times and hopefully it'll continue to get easier and easier.

Good luck! ;)

I've worn contacts for a number of years and get my lenses online as they're far far cheaper.

I go to Buy Cheap Contact lenses direct from the UK who are brilliant.

You'll need to know your prescription but once you've got this, you can select from a range of lenses. They also offer a good deal on bulk buys and their standard delivery is next day.

Oh, and there's something about a girl in glasses that just does it for me!

That is excellent to know and probably the biggest money saver I have learned of on here. Cheers.

No way ???

That's REALLY bad for your eyes. I've left them on by mistake before, and I can barely see the next day, my site is all cloudy and my eyes full of gunk.
