Who has just been signed by the albion at the tender age of 8, a very long way to go but i sincerely hope he's able to walk out a Falmer some day. What makes it even better is the fact that he's an avid Brighton fan aswell unlike half the kids in the team. I'm not sure whether it will interest anyone, but seems to me like NSC has been a breeding ground for negativity of late.

Make sure he plays every day and make sure you encourage him to play with both feet, even if he's uncomfortable with his weaker foot right now, he'll benefit massively from it if he carries on playing with both feet for a few years. Encourage him to play some games only left footed, he might play like a bit of a retard but it massively helps if he seriously wants to make it. :)

Good luck to the chap!

Best of luck however I do feel this some what takes the whole enjoyment out of football at such a tender age where he cannot play for a local Sunday Youth club.

In his first game he scored twice and hit the bar, that was the first week in his trial. Of course i'm going to be slightly biased but he's a class above the rest of the kids in terms of intelligence on and off the ball, he can play balls that i couldn't dream of playing and i'm twice his age.

His sunday league coach played for Eastbourne Borough (Dean Lightwood) and his training was of the same nature of Brighton's in that it was strict etc. But they were taught how to play football and they're a team to be reckoned with in that age group

I don't dispute that but I just feel kids should have the freedom to enjoy football. The lad two doors away got to U16s at BHAFC then did not get a scholars contract and believe me he was distraught, all that effort for nothing in effect.

Yeah it seems to me like they promise them the world, and don't give it to them.

I know exactly what you're saying, and personally I think professional clubs take kids away from their mates far far too early.

However, a bit unfair to cite the example of your neighbour. You could just as easily cite examples of kids who have 'made it'. It's great for kids to dream. Having said that, I completely understand why you're introducing caution here.

I wish good luck to any kid that gets 'picked up' by a pro club and hope that whatever level they achieve, above all, they enjoy their football without too much pressure being put upon them.

So presumably he is straight into the first team on Saturday - couldn't do any worse than the current mob.

Surely if they receive good coaching ( appropriate coaching for their age ) then they can continue to enjoy the game as they would in the relative chaos of the Sunday League.

Those within the Centre of Excellence system can sometime stereotype the Sunday League as a league full of poor players, coaching and management and those within the Sunday League can also stereotype the Academy system as a heartless pressurised environment that stifles youngsters freedom to express themselves.

Both are an unfair representations of each other.

I would note a word of caution here to the original poster, although its great for his Brother and he is rightly proud, probably best to not offer a comparison that implies that he is ahead of his new teamates.

Its a long haul from Under 8's to Under 12's let alone a professional career !!
