computer dvd help

i'm sure this has be posted loads of times before but i have brought a dvd writer for my pc and the film i want to burn is to long for the dvd, i heard there is some software you can download to compress it. Can anyone help?

dvdshrink is the one I use. Or NERO can do it.

dvdshrink is freeware and a ripper all in one.

I think this is a good site, got a fair few links to rippers and compressors. There is also a new product out called ratdvd which I've not tried but compresses dvd's down to cd size, ie 780 meg instead of 4.8 gig.
