Alright?

I want to buy myself a new tellybox for the Olympics and have been looking around.

The model I like the look of is, upsuprisingly, more expensive in Comet etc than you can find online.

I realise that they can't probably match the online price but do these large high street chains budge on price at all?

Thought I'd ask before I stride in there and make myself look a prize cok

cheers

ps any recommendations for good independant TV shops to have a look in around Brighton & Hove?

You might be able to get a small discount. But you must speak to the Manager, otherwise it will be a no go.

But try an independent shop, they will look after you properly on price and service. :)

try Hills of Hove

Trust me, you wont look a cok. There is a 'recession' on. You've got money and they want it. I have found recently if you speak to the manager of these types of stores they will equal the internet price.
Good luck

Uncle C you are spot on there. I already know of friends that have negotiated discounts.

You should always be prepared to haggle. What the's worst that can happen? A polite, "No sir, we can't go lower than £..." They are not going to say "How dare you! You are banned from all our stores for life!"

Go for it.

One other bit of advice.

Some people like the comfort of a 5 year extended cover particularly on plasma and LCD which are very expensive to repair. Currys and Comet will charge you over the odds.

Go to an independent and ask about the same package. Often the TV is that bit more expensive but the cover (recently Sony and Panasonic ) is free.

Its a deal the big TV companies do with the independents to keep them sweet (and in business).

Now that is quality information.

dont forget John Lewis who will price match against any other in store price nd include a free 5 year warranty. FYI, currys do match the dixons online price (both are in the DSG group of companies) as long as you sign up for their warranty. However, if you dont want the extended warranty, cancel the direct debit after the 1st month of paying for it. Did this myself in January and got 50quid off my tv.

if you're looking for recommendations, can't go far wrong with this one

Panasonic Viera TH42PX80B Plasma HD Ready Digital Television, 42 Inch - John Lewis</title><script type="text/javascript" src="/Javascript/browserDetection.js"></script><link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/stylejl.css"></link><title>

cheers for the advice NSC

I had a look at Hills but they didn't have the telly I had in mind.

I got it through John Lewis as recommended above and got their 5 year gaurentee which would have cost something like £250 through the likes of Comet.

Not now it seems !!!

I recently wanted to buy a seperate freezer and fridge. Went to Currys and they would have been £670 in total with £20 delivery. Tried to haggle and was told there were no discounts .... FULL STOP. Went to Comet and was offered £50 off and free delivery.

Got home and went online - Dixons - £480 and £20 delivery - job done

Good work. It's also worth keeping an eye on the price for the next 28 days as Jon lewis also pricematch against any lower INSTORE prices you see 28 days after you purchase your TV from them. If you see it cheaper elsewhere, just drop them an e-mail requesting a pricematch.

I haggled over a deal last Dec in Curry's and managed to get £173 off at TV costing a grand, and a free HDMI lead.
Always Haggle!
