Its the eyes!

Did you see how he looked at Cole, when Cole fouled the bloke leading to the second Croat goal? Cole said to him " f*** off" and Collina went after him and Beckham had to step in or Cole would have been incinerated by that glare!

If he gets to ref in the Premiershite, we may get him in a cup game!!!!

BTW, does anyone else think that Anders Frisk is also a pretty good ref? He's almost in Collina's mould in his ability to command a game and he doesn't get much wrong (apart from looking like a porn actor that is).
There is a school of thought that Andes Frisk is actually better than Pierluigi Collina, but I thought he was below par in his last game. Frisk waves cards too easily for my liking. The reason Collina is so good is that he gets difficult decisions correct amazingly often which means that players respect him, which means they don't gob off at him or get wound up at perceived injustices, which means he doesn't have to book them.

except for Ashley 'f***ing gooner gobshyte' Cole afdter conceding a Phylis Neville style needless free kick which led to us conceding a goal

telling a ref to f*** off is a sending off offence.

Funnily enough, even the Italian commentary team noticed that and said that Collina must have decided to bear in mind the "tension of the moment" otherwise he could have been off.

Collina has some form for sending players off for swearing at him.

Incidentally, has there been a worse refereeing performance than Mike Riley's in the Germany v Latvia game when he missed TWO blatent penalty awards for the same side? :nono:

Surely this clown is NOT the best we have to offer? ???

Truly a waste if he has to retire from internationals whatever the age is.

Another bloody stupid rule that needs changing.

Seperated at birth:

Collina - That baldy baddy from early 80's slasher horror movie 'The Hills Have Eyes'.

Anders Frisk- Gus from 'Drop The Dead Donkey'.

Collina is class and his secret seems to be that platers have respect for him. Riley was piss poor and missed two nailed on pens. Of course the best Premiership ref is the one who has exactly the same real name as me.:)

One decision for the Croats free-kick was wrong though - Cole just poked it out for a corner and yet was penalised for a foul.
That resulted in a goal for them - so we are not completely blessed by the adjudications of Collina.

That was the linesman's decision though, and Collina could hardly overrule him, although he wasn't going to give it himself. Absolutely class referee, hardly ever falls for the play-acting that blights over games.

Collina has not always been so hot in Italian domestic football. Funnily enough though, he rarely gets to handle Juve or Milan (AC) games as he is one ref they cannot readily control, unlike so many others.

You're not really suggesting that Itailian league games are fixed surely ? ???

You say that the italians are prone to a little match rigging, but rumours are the Danes and the Swedish might be getting ready for a 2-2 draw tonight to take them both through at the expense of.....Italy.

Joe Royle expressed his admiration for Collina by asking why other referees felt the need to complicate what is a simple game. Had Joe Ross been the official for the England-Croatia game, we would have seen a flurry of cards, both yellow and red.

There's an actor who I haven't seen around for a while who I think may have been in 'It Aint arf hot mum, anyway, he always plays upper class twit types and I always think of him when I see Mike Riley.

Just thought I'd share that with you

FIFA rules state you must retire from internaional games at 45 which he says in his book is stupid if you are fit and still able you should be allowed to carry on.

I've got that book too! Top quality:thumbsup:

What made me laugh was the title of the first chapter. 'A World Cup in Viareggio' as that's where I went on holiday last year.

Did you know he also owns a jewellery shop out there?

That may be the 'rumour', but basically it's an absolute pile of shite deamed up by the Italian press so that they have a ready-made excuse for the possible failure of their national team, again (remember the last World Cup?).
