Haven't seen this anywhere, if so, apologies if fixtures.

They got robbed of 5grand (or so) on Friday night. Straight out the till. My mate works their and was working when it happened, got punched to the floor in the process.

Some people are such *****.

Its not that un-common.

When I worked for the co-op we quite often had over a grand in a till and we had 3 tills. The shop I used to work in now has 4 tills so at the end of a busy day, which could easily be a Firday night, 5 grand isnt that far fetched.

If you think thats a large amount maybe thats why Woolies went bust?

Well if it's not un-common it's bloody stupid - especially if ex employees broadcast it all over the internet that Co-Op tills are practically asking to be robbed.

Woolies may have gone bust, but they knew went to take cash out of the till and put it in a safe.

They might aswell have just left the tills open to be honest, their safety policies were a joke and as most of the staff were on the rob it doesnt surprise me that the customers are!

They wont do anything to stop the place getting done over again either

I have to be honest, as sad as that story is for the parties involved, I'm afraid my first thought was "five GRAND in a till?" and my mind immediately set to work on the best times to do over a Co-Op.

What happened to the days of "banking" your load in the safe every time the till got a bit full?

I feel bad saying it but that really is asking for trouble. All you need to do is choose one without a security guard, make sure you know where the cameras are and keep yourself covered, imply that you have a weapon and casually walk out with a rucksack full of banknotes (having double checked your escape route).

I'm a little bit worried at how tempting I find this

Mosr sensible companies empty the tills quite regularly but then I did say sensible which is a category that neither Co-op or Somerfields come into, judging by the performance of their staff.

I've got some more news on this, as I saw my mate today, for the first time since it happened. The 6 grand (not 5) was not from the till, it was the days takings and going in to the safe.

Basically what happened was he was taking the rubbish out, in the yard, where he got smacked in the face and pinned to the ground, when two other people (one armed) got in the backdoor and held the manager at knife point (whilst she was putting the 6grand into the safe) and took the money. All this took 24 seconds.

Seem's too much of a big coincidence that the robbers got in the backdoor at the exact same time the money was being put into the safe.:glare:

At the Co-op I work at, we have metal deposit box things fixed under the counter to put notes in when the till starts to fill up, and we also empty the tills regularly anyway.

I am however rubbish at my job though so can't fault you abut the staff comment

So, the safe and the back door were open at the same time? Who told your mate to take the rubbish out at that time? I don't think we need Poirot to solve this one - even Clouseau could.

I work in a Co-op, and we can not have more than £200 in the till at any one time.

£5,000 seems a bit excessive!
