I agree with the OP, CMS was the worst BHA player on the pitch tonight.
The team probably had their best 90 minutes of the season, yet, CMS let the side down. He is not up to the task. Gus must take much of the blame. A very good manager but unfortunately has failed to bring in a top or decent
forward to the club todate! Ferguson must have been laughing his socks off tonight.

Then again, we have similar roots to Reading ( although I've always vouched we're bigger and better than Reading) and despite their recent wealthy history and being top of the league we played them off the park! Next season is going to be EVEN BETTER.

Reading were shit tonight with just 1 decent striker we would have won

Some on here are f***ing idiots, including the op! CMS is quality. We don't play to his strengths, he's got 11 goals, is a right nuisance for an opposition defense and I'd rather have him than not have him. I think the side was worse off when he went off and vokes came on. Shame on some of you......

Is he quality though ? I love CM-S but even I am thinking " it's not working out " You might love a Woman and she love's you but that in itself sometimes is not enough. Sometimes you have to say " we are uncompatable and although we love each other it is not going to work ". That's my mindset at the moment.

He wasn't a nuisance to the Reading centrebacks, they had him in their pocket.

This isn't even about him not scoring, although he hasn't looked like a dangerous striker for a long time, it's about him not being able to control or pass a ball well enough in a team that plays the way we do. You can say we don't play to his strengths all you like, but it's not going to change, a striker in our team is going to be required to do those things.

And when we do play to his strengths, there was at least one ball from inside our half over the top of the Reading defence that he was scampering on to, but he was neither quick or strong enough to get past the Reading defender. In League One, he scored a lot of goals from balls like that.

It pains me to say it because I like him and want him to succeed for us, but you can't make excuses forever.

Not a jcl 1st game was in 79 80 season, i would love smith to come good but he wont, running around like a headless chicken does not work at this level , the players need brains and skill Smith has neither

Clueless comments by people that have never played the game,been a good season with the basis of the same side with 1 or 2 coming in pre season we will be stronger and better next season ,with cms hopefully leading the line with the missing piece in the jigsaw

Not working out? Who else had scored 11? He is the thorn in the oppo defense side. Some of his runs and crosses are Gary Hart like but alot faster, you seriously would have him playing against you? Instead of for you? No
No one else is producing goals, why is he a failure when most games he's the best player on the park?

It's clear he cannot play upfront on his own in this division. It's also fairly obvious that our other strikers over the course of the season have ranged from poor to mediocre. I think CMS is a good player who could score 15-20 goals in this division - and that's no mean feat, as apart from Lambert nobody has more than 17 at the moment. But we must play two upfront for it to happen and the other player must complement him. I look at Jason Roberts tonight and wonder what CMS would be like if he had someone with that presence to do the hard work for him.

IMHO he does not look strong or quick enough to be that sucessful in the championship playing the way he does.

I can see why he scored loads at league 1 level but the championship is almost twice as fast.

Hope he comes good next season, but the Reading offer in January could have been our get out of jail free card.

The guy has 11 goals, creates as well as scores, no one in our side is prolific. So what do you want instead? Which player would you have spent 3 mil on to bag loads of goals?

Get real mate, he's a class act. I've never seen a player hustle and harass the oppo sinse Kevin Bremner, and he had Nelson!

So stop expecting a goal a game and enjoy him for what he is, a bloody good player. I don't mind paying every week to watch him.
