Or Jimmy Adamson

Or John Angus, or Brian Miller, or Tommy Boyle, or Martin Dobson......etc.

Like I say there's no right or wrong answer, but usually it's the player you remember playing mostly for the selected club.

Brighton - Willie Irvine, or should it be Steve Foster? :D

Simply, the two most iconic ' club men ' in British football history. Giant figures. Leaders on and off the field. Combatants against each other as player and manager, for year after year after year. Centre halves, captains, club ambassadors, legends.

Thanks for the Harry Cripps name-check. Brings back a memory of him slotting the ball expertly into his own net against the Albion back in the mid-60s!

Plymouth
Matfield Minors - Raleigh Chopper
1975-1980 Village Legend.
Still talked about in the Matfield & Brenchley pubs today.
Against all the odds of playing on a sloping pitch from north to south, and east to west whereas if you stood on the goal line at one end you could only see the crossbar of the other goal and the north west corner flag was below sea level. Not a blade of grass on the pitch which would freeze over in deep ruts, numb feet and hands and cold showers, still managed to lead his men to victory in every competition for 5 seasons.
It was widely acknowledged that if, at the age of 17 had not discovered fags, booze and girls could have gone on to play for England.
