It's a bit rich for club executives to be taking all the credit for the explosion in our attendances.

It was always going to happen when we got a decent ground, and a decent team at the same time has only magnified the effect. It is a one-off situation, and other clubs would be a far better barometer of national trends.

All the other stuff we are doing (encourage getting there early, staying late) is more to try and maximise revenue, and minimise the transport problems.

I think Brighton's incredible attendances are more in spite of the prices rather than because of them - although the season ticket cost is a lot more reasonable than the day prices.

I don't think that article actually mentioned the real reason (in my opinion) for the high attendances we have - being able to pay Season Tickets by interest-free direct debit.

I agree. It also encourages you to go if you have a season ticket even when the weather is shit and you're ill. The real reason is the high number of STHs and that as you say simply would not have been feasible without direct debit.

"It's fair to say Brighton's Amex Stadium is different from their former home, the Withdean Stadium, and there can be little doubt they have benefited from having new airy concourses and excellent transport links."

Where does it say they are taking all the credit?

There are lots of reasons, some down to the clubs management and some down to the supporters. The fact that we don't have other clubs on our doorstep is a big plus. Playing half decent football helps as does interest free direct debits and a great stadium, all directly down to the club but you make it sound as though they are claiming credit for something that was not of their doing?

I thought the piece was pretty lightweight, to be honest. Millwall's attendance aren't on the increase and ours are higher because of one-off factors. A better article would have been to pin down why many German clubs are getting 50,000, 60,000 or 70,000 fans attending, and how feasible it would be to replicate that sort of turnout in the UK.

The German clubs get a lot of the little things right. Watching Schalke vs Hannover last weekend in a 5-4 thriller, I noticed how the announcer shouted out the name of the goal scorer AND the bloke who made the assist. Genius! Two songs for the price of one, the players are happy, everyone's a winner. I'd like to see the Albion announcer do this at the Amex.

They are excellent transport links - just not if 27,000 people expect to be able to use them at the same time with no queueing.

Excellent transport links.

:wozza:

To be fair there isn't really any other stadium with such an extensive P&R system, public buses and public trains ( with a station right at the stadium ) and that gets such a large number of supporters using these systems.

And with the Albion posting up an operating loss of 8 million i'm sure not many will follow our transport model

Maybe the fans of other clubs might pay for the transport instead of freeloading and adhere to requests about on-street parking, thereby avoiding their club getting fined and having to shell out for the cost of long term parking schemes.

This being the key to the whole thing..... why other clubs aren't doing the same is beyond me!!!
