[Albion] Club stopped a Boxing Day Spurs game

Not sure this has come up on here - its from last week - but worth sharing i think . After the challenging Boxing Day / Brentford game a couple of years ago with limited travel options and a very poor crowd turn out - then club according to Naylor's reporting - pushed back and stopped a 12.30 TV KO for the Spurs fixture this year - which was the original PL/TV plan.

Annoying. This year was going to be the first time in a decade I could do Boxing Day football (kids now the right age etc) and 12:30 was the only time I could have made it work.

It's my boys birthday on Boxing Day and football is/was always something we could do, otherwise options are pretty limited. Looks like we're back to 10 pin bowling, and trying to find somewhere half decent that's open for food.

Don't know why they were worried, if there were no trains or buses it wouldn't have been that different to a normal game

So basically there is no point in us having a Boxing Day game at the Amex then. I'm still miffed about this, I have other commitments on the re-arranged date, will have to make do with catch up on Amazon. Thursday for a league game is a joke.

It’s even more embarrassing that the train companies and staff refuse to serve the public on a public holiday, when they need to travel. It’s nothing to do with incompetence of the club or stadium staff.

I appreciate people want to watch football on Boxing day in the main - I know I do - but have to say well done the club on this one. Brentford was half empty last year without the trains and this is where Falmer being the only viable location bites us. Irrespective of the current never ending train strikes, it is a bit shit that trains don't run on boxing day full stop.

The boxing day game is one of the first fixtures I check.

I don't drive and live in London, so a home game generally means I will have to miss it.
Happy the club have made this move.

But here's the thing - given the unique infrastructure challenges, the club should lobby the Premier League to block ANY home fixture on Boxing Day.

In the same way the fixture computer is set-up to avoid an Albion home match clashing with Pride, and many considerations for other clubs.

Plenty of non-league games on Boxing Day if yu need a footie fix.

How many grounds can support a game without relying heavily on people driving? Should modern stadia still be designed to be reliant on car travel?
