There are so many reasons for the decline in pub numbers: rise of Sky, internet, cheap DVDs, computer games, Wii, cheap supermarket booze, inflation-busting increase in pub booze prices, smoking ban, general economic malaise to name but a few.

It's amazing that any of them are making any money at all.

Soon to be closing.
The Dorsten, Bewbush
The Imperial, Broadfield

Don't think they will be missed by many. Used to live not far from either of them as well. :lolol:

Not sure if the Frogshole or whatever its called in Maidenbower that was a nice pub is up and running after the fire or is it closed for good?

The Alhambra was knocked down around 1979, when the Thistle hotel was built, a lot of punk bands played there, and the Piranha's had a regular gig on sunday nights.

Went there once or twice, saw Vice Squad there I think, ir was that at Xtreme? Was it not the building to the left of the Thistle as you look at it from the front Perhaps not, it was a long time ago.

..only ever drank in the (Half) Moon twice...

...The last time I was in the Queens Head the then landlord who looked like Henry VIII...

...Can't really comment on the pubs in Pulborough, ...

...Sussex used to have some real gems when it came to pubs, hidden away from view and pretty much needing a map, compass and sixth sense to find them...places like the Bells and the Bax Castle...

Half Moon was renamed New Mon 5 or 6 years ago after a major refit.

That landlord, Dave, from the Queens moved to Loxwood, the Onslow Arms, but recently suffered bad ill health and passed away earlier this year.

Pulborough Pubs, best not commented on really, pretty ropey IMO. Although the White Horse at Mare Hill (which closed between about 1990 and 2000) is OK ish, but full of rugger buggers.

Sussex Gems we frequent, in no particular order;

The Blue Ship - The Haven
Three Moles - Selham
Sportsman - Amberley (new owner is the old landlord of the Black Rabbit at Byworth)
Rising Sun - Nutbourne
White Hart - Stopham Bridge (new owner, Albion STH)
Five Bells - Smock Alley

All worth a visit if you're out and about.

not sure of the name but the pub in Cooksbridge next to the station is either closed down or having a refit.

Also the Royal George in Burgess Hill is now a block of trendy flats, Sussex in Haywards Heath is being turned into flats atm
