CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND

The music builds up , the tention builds up and then there is a huge explosion of blinding light .

Withnail and I:
King Curtis' haunting rendition of "whiter Shade of Pale" as the camera focuses on Marwood chewing his nails while puffing away nervously on a fag cum doobie. His eyes ablaze with paranoia.
Class.

Dixon of Dock Green (the original film) when Dixon gets killed.

But he still kept the part until he was well past his sell-by date.

First time I saw it I was suitably grabbed by the opening to Blade Runner

Most menacing
Most tense
Quietest
Most arrid
Closest-up
Longest ?

Then followed by the Main Theme, a beautiful piece...

Most of that surely goes some way towards being the best?

Take your point and it is a brilliant film from start to finish but 2001 covers the dawn of man, the first realisation that a weapon brings power, the grimmest and most realistic killing scene that I have seen and the changing of a bone in flight into a spaceship is the piece de resistance. Oh and the music is not too shabby either. Can't be bettered imo, even if the rest of the film now looks somewhat dated.
