[Albion] Clapping substitutes warming up / players coming out to warm up before a match

I read this paragraph in When Saturday Comes (yes really):

'One of the more neglected wonders of human relations occurs just now as a clattering of applause breaks out in the Roland Wycherley Stand (Shrewsbury) for the Shrewsbury substitutes as they jog past in green bibs. The subs respond in kind. This is an overlooked phenomenon - the greatest acts of kindness are unnecessary, as in encouraging someone who has achieved nothing - and one that critics of humanity, like the Hooded Claw, would do well to muse on'.

Which prompted me to think:
1) When did the phenomenon of clapping subs on their warm up start (I only went in the West Stand at the Goldstone 3/4 times and dont remember it happening there, dont remember it at Priestfield but then the players on the pitch werent worth clapping there, nevermind those not on it and I dont remember it at Withdean even though I was on that side of the pitch, but that might have been due to pre match visits to the Evening Star/Lord Nelson/Basketmakers)?

2) Do players still get clapped when they come out individually for a warm up before games, as I do recall happening at the Goldstone but havent seen since then due to similar reasons outlined above Re Withdean?

I put on a bib so we match although I like to put both arms inside the bib.

I miss the bit when the teams come out where the Albion players run into the centre circle and wave to the crowd.

Maybe I imagined it. The First Division Goldstone days were a while back…

Pretty sure the subs are sent out someytimes just to gee the crowd up a bit, a few times when itys quiet the subs will run the line and get a bit of a cheer

My dad was taking me to the football in the early 60's. I've just checked and there were no subs when I first started going to the Goldstone. Didn't start till 1965/66 season. No point warming up the sub as for the first couple of seasons, they could only come on for injuries. But dirty Leeds and one or two other clubs started faking injuries for tactical reasons - who knew. Only then did subs as we know them become a thing. But I have no recollection of them warming up, probably apart from a quick ciggie in the dugout! Different times.

Definitely happened at Withdean, fair bit for banter with home and away players. Craig Noone played the crowd well.
