For something a bit different I can heartily recommend James Brown's Funky Christmas (especially Let's Make Christmas Mean Something This Year – Parts 1 & 2).

It's also especially poignant because I believe the great man bought it on Christmas Day.

John Lennon - Merry Xmas (war is over)
Band Aid - Do they know it's Xmas
Pogues and Kirsty McColl - Fairytale of New York

and special mentions for the Snowman video flying over Brighton, and the Mud Lonely this Xmas on Top of the Pops with blokes on stepladders emptying boxes of polystyrene over them

You have GOT to be kidding me. Keating does to this exactly what he does to any song he covers - turned it into dull, emotionless, syrupy ballad dross.

That version of the song falls into the Daniel O'Donnell category of "safe, harmless music for the nearly dead", and is certainly not a patch on the original IMO

Absolutely 100% correct in every single detail. My favorite Christmas song (by a country mile) is the Pogues / Kirsty MacColl. My LEAST favorite Christmas song (again by a country mile) is the Ronan Keating version. I simply do not have the terms of abuse to describe someone who prefers the Keating version. Suffice to say I'd rather my daughter married a Palace fan and took her children to Selhurst Park as opposed to her marrying someone who thought the Keating abomination was the better version.
