Christmas Shopping

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
I have some (soon to be ex) friends already buying presents for Christmas.

Is it being organised or a little bit sad?

I can't imagine buying a Christmas present before 15th December at the very earliest. Granted, people are going to have to send abroad in good time, but the start of October? Eurgh.

I know some friends that have done it all too (Females). To me part of the fun of Christmas shopping is doing it when all the decorations, trees and lights are up.

I don't bother with it anymore. I buy friends and loved ones bits and bobs through the year but the idea of specifiacaly heading into town to buy presents anywhere near Christmas is hell. The only person I ever bought specific presents for at Chrimbo were my Mum and my other half. I don't know what people think of this and I can't say I care either. Don't expect presents and I don't give them either. Nobody seems that fussed.

I used to enjoy putting a christmassy film on the box, cracking a few cans and wrapping my presents, especially if it was cold outside and warm inside. I do miss that a bit I suppose but I don't miss yomping through the Laines or Western Rd with the general public. I suppose I could buy online but I can't even be bothered to do that these days.

I prefer the ritual of breaking bread with good people to the dolling out of expensive crap that people can buy for themselves.

Amazon is my friend. I don't even have to get out of bed.

Some lunatic shop in Liverpool started their Santa grotto last week.

This. Otherwise it feels like normal shopping. We have palace and Charlton first 2 Saturdays of December so I def won't be starting until after then. And probably start around the 20th! Although I may do it all online this year if its cheaper.

I'm looking most forward to the food shopping though! The treats i only seem to buy at Xmas! Cheese savouries, white toblerone, mince pies, tins of chocolates, after eights, cadburys dream fingers, box of buttery shortbread, box of wine gums, guylian Belgian chocolates etc.

The fruit gets replaced by roses, celebrations, heroes etc in the fruit bowl! Think I better lose a stone in advance this year

I have no problem with shopping for Christmas well before the rush starts. It can make sense for some people, in all honesty - if you have a big extended family and an arrangement where you buy for untold numbers of kids, does it really matter if some of the shopping is done early and put away? Equally, Argos have a 3 for 2 offer on all toys at the moment - I'll bet they won't by the time Dec 1st rolls around.

I DO have a problem with decorations going up before December 1st though, and Santas grottos and all that bollocks. Really there is no place for the festivities for another two months.

People doing shopping early for Christmas - I don't have an issue with it.
Christmas adverts in October and decorations already going up - No, no, no, no, no.

Depends if you have the money to do it all at once - we have to spread Xmas shopping over the winter months although it would be nice to do it whilst the decs are up. Most of it comes from either Amazon or Tesco (double Clubcard points ) anyway :)

I actually love Christmas shopping. First Saturday in December. I make a list so I know what I'm getting everybody then me and the Mrs head into town and arrange the shopping around lunch and drinks. I love the crowds and the whole Christmassy feel. Sometimes I have to go back again if there's bits I've missed, but I like to leave that until Christmas Eve which is also when I wrap them all up, accompanied by a carols CD and one or three bottles of red wine.

Doing it early would spoil it for me.

There is nothing shitter than spending all evening on Christmas eve wrapping up presents because you couldn't be arsed doing it earlier. One of the most drudgy shithouse jobs ever invented. They get wrapped as soon as they come in at my house, and then I spend Christmas eve watching a film with my loved ones, whilst perhaps peeling some veg for the big roast on the following day.

I'd agree about doing it in the evening, that's why I do it in the afternoon when I come back from shopping and the pub. I've always been pretty crap at wrapping presents so doing it after a few pints is neither here nor there!
