Help!

Am looking to take the better half away Mid-December for a short break, preferably somewhere with a nice open air Christmas market. Practically every city in Germany and many across Europe seem to have these but can anyone recommend anywhere particular worth going?? Was looking at Munich, anyone been to theirs??

Went to Vienna in November last year and the whole city was already into Christmas in a big way. Lots of christmas markets.

Nice place to visit too, especially if you like a bit of history and culture!

Nuremberg or Cologne, would be my suggestions. Both have nice old towns and good reputations for their Christmas markets. Nuremberg edges it for scenery, but don't rule out Cologne when the local beer Kolsch is that good and served in female friendly glass sizes.

Virtually any German one would be good - I've heard Nuremberg is especially good (but not been myself).

The last one I went to was in Aachen and that was great.

Avoid Brugge

Went on a coach excursion from Brighton and when we got there it was very disappointing. About twenty stalls selling more or less the same thing. Total waste of time and resources

If your looking for anywhere else other than Germany, Montpellier was really nice last December. A lot of the cities/towns/villages in south France make a real effort at christmas and put us to shame.

Bremen's market is pretty nice! I went there in 2006 when visiting my uncle, was very impressed
