The opening to the centre piece of the day, and it's absolutely vital you get it right. A bad starter can ruin the whole meal, however good the roasted bird/nut is, get it right though and you're ready to enjoy the remainder of the meal and day. So what will you be doing?

I often set aside a few pigs in blankets to be tested before serving, does this count?

Having a friend round for Xmas din-dins, and she makes the most scrum-diddly-umptions mackerel pâté, so that's what we will be having.

I love both Sherry Trifle, and Black Forest Gateau. Though I was alive for a month of the 70s so that could be why.
crodonilson No starters here but we'll be treating our guests to all manner of nibbly bits to whet their appetites before the main event. Have you got Giles and Polly over? And who did Gurjit draw for you in the Secret Santa at work?

No starter.

Straight in with the enormous feast.

This. The true Christmas gorging only really starts with the dinner so why put it off?

Well, following on from the 4 cans of Special Brew for breakfast we then move on towards Christmas Dinner with a traditional Scottish recipe of Vodka cup a soup.
