Christian Purslow: Greed is very prevalent in football

I caught a very interesting interview on Hard Talk last night. Well worth a watch where Christian Purslow also goes on to explain that in the German regulation model, all clubs have to give a stake to the fans, which reminded me of the DK's attempt to distribute shares to supporters and our club's negative stance on it.

HARDtalk speaks to former Liverpool FC Managing Director, Christian Purslow.

He tells Stephen Sackur that the new Financial Fair Play Regulations are already modifying transfer behaviour in football and will help to stabilise football finances, tackling ‘terrible inflation’ at the top of the market.

He also says that English clubs could learn lessons from German football in giving fans more of a voice in the future direction of their clubs.

Nothing we didn't already know, but to hear someone like Purslow bemoaning it is refreshing.

Although nothing will change and football WILL eat itself until only the top 4 or 5 remain.

He comes across well. Very knowledgeable and gives good insight into how clubs are run. Also pops up on sky during transfer deadline days with some good stories. Well worth watching if you have time.

DK giving a portion of his shares wouldn't give fans a particularly well heard voice. No more than the meetings the club regularly holds with fans. DK's share of the share in circulation are already minute, there's virtually no difference.

DK never offered shares to fans during his tenure, to kick up a fuss about it now is genuinely to stir some anti-board sentiment. What other reason would there be? The German model is great, I don't doubt that. However, what advantages does it bring over our current model?
