I remeber seeing him limp off after Whitesides assault, which was the reaon for their heavy victory, but didn't recal it having such an impact long term. What happened to him after the cup replay?

I always remember him as being a bit too uncultured to be classed as good as that. A solid defender, but not all that. However I was young at the time and was probably not really looking at what a good defender should be.

For example I thought he played right back?!!

He did play right back Graham Pearce was left back,I think and am fairly certain.

great memories - I remember seeing Graham Pearce playing for Barnet against us at the Goldstone in a cup competition. We signed him on the basis of that performance I think.

I thought Ramsey was a right back, seem to remember he was on the right of the pitch when Whiteside mulered him.

For some bizare reason I remember that Chris Ramsey did the voice on Steve Fosters answering machine - why on earth would I bother retaining that in my rapidly reducing memory banks?

Glad I wasn't imagining it. Was fairly certain that was the problem in the replay, in that left footed Steve Gatting was asked to play at right back instead of right footed Gerry Ryan who had done a sterling job when Chris Ramsey went off in the first game.

As a bit more time goes by you'll be claiming he won a host of England caps together with the world cup!!!!!

As previously mentioned, he was a right back and for the life of me, I cannot recall any pundit suggesting he was the best in the league.

I thought he was great and what happened to him is one of the reasons I shed no tears when that bastard scum wanker thug Whiteside's career ended prematurely. Not prematurely enough for me.

Wasn't he nicknamed "Yifter the shifter"? Was a leggy right back and those long strides would tear up the pitch on overlapping runs and those legs were very good on snaking out on tackles.

His career was pretty short as he only really came into the frame when melia became manager in December and the Cup final injury in May more or less finished him, although I think he dropped down the leagues (Swindon?)

He was, and maybe still is, part of the England set up.

Indeed he did play on the right - thus my (unintentionally ironic) banner at Wembley "Watch Out Whiteside, Ramsey's On the Right Side"

He was my favourite player at the time and he never fully recovered from that tackle.

Was nicknamed 'yifter' after the runner at the time, not particularly tall but was more a rather naive nickname of the only black player at the club whilst being a decent runner, well maybe the ONLY runner at the time whilst others were out partying !!!

Currently at Tottenham within the Academy set up, think he ended up at Southend with Paul Clarke, or was that Orient ??

Got most of the available coaching badgers and was involved in one age group of the England team I think, but Brian Eastick another ex-Brighton coach is manager of the England under 19's.

You're not imagining it. It was mentioned in the player profiles in the Cup Final match programme (and now how the hell do I remember that!).

Interesting that he is at Tottenham. One of the few clubs, along with Arsenal, to have a significant Black fan base who actually go to games.

Was a top fella and I hated Whiteside and Man U after that for a long time - in fact until the golden generation came through and converted me.

Chris himself was more than capable of a spiteful challenge himself !!!
