He scored 15 goals in this league with a RELAGATED team. Is that not proven at this level? I very much doubt he is going to be our main striker, more of a Barnes replacement.

For 500K, seems like a great signing.

Similar to Hughes, this looks like a "moneyball" signing. Striker who had a good year in a poor poor team and has experience of the league. Low fee, low wages I'd imagine.

It'll look a masterstroke if it comes off, if it doesn't we probably haven't lost a great amount.

I would be massively suprised if this is intended to be the replacement for Ulloa.

In my mind, he is one of the four strikers we'll have.

- CMS
- O'Grady
- Fenelon
- ?????

Has Vossen signed for anyone yet? Weren't we interested in him?

Ulloa, 27 (28 this month) - 14 league goals last year in a team that finished 6th - £7m+ - Out.
O'Grady, 28 - 15 league goals in a team that were relegated. - £500k - In.

That leaves us with at least £6.5m to strengthen elsewhere. He won't even replace Ulloa. And people are complaining? Do other teams have this many idiots supporting them?

There is no place for this rational thought out approach :ban:

Agree let's stop with the bedwetting nonsense and use the word idiots from now on because there's no other way to explain the hysteria on here at the moment.

Best thing about getting Toxteth in, is that we didn't sign Sam Baldock, and he'd have actually cost more!

But no ones never even heard of him!?
He's a journeyman.
He's UNINSPIRING.
He personifies this club's lack of ambition.
He's not even a top Premier League striker!
He's not Glenn Murray (who we won't mention any more)
[end of sarcasm]

We've just sold a striker for SEVEN MILLION POUNDS and people are acting like this is the only player we're buying and the transfer window closes tonight. It's just amazing to me that people think like they do sometimes. If at the start of the season we still haven't signed anyone and we lose our opening 5 games, scoring 0 goals in the process... then I could understand the criticism. But until then, people really REALLY need to chill the **** out.

When/who we sign isn't that important to me. We could sign Billy Paynter again for all I care, just as long as Sami gets the team winning! And we won't know if Sami can get the team winning until we start the season. It's that simple. Calm down!

Given what I've read over the past couple of days on here, I think if we signed Messi, Ronaldo and Neuer and Lahm there would be some people complaining about it.

Talk about writing someone off before they've even signed!

No it don't.

Ulloa cost say £2.5M, so actually £4M.

Albion are closing in on Barnsley striker Chris O'Grady.

The centre-forward is expected to complete a £500,000 move to the Seagulls on a three-year contract, subject to passing a medical.

Barnsley are not due back from their pre-season tour in the Italian Alps until Tuesday but O'Grady has flown back early to finalise his switch to the Amex.

The much-travelled 28-year-old is not a direct replacement for Leo Ulloa, who is on the verge of joining Leicester for a fee in excess of £7 million.

The Seagulls were already tracking O'Grady, 28, to boost manager Sami Hyypia's striking options.

Craig Mackail-Smith was the only orthodox forward available to Hyypia for last night's 3-1 friendly defeat by Real Betis in Spain, with youngster Shamir Fenelon sidelined by a slight knock.

Midfielder Nzuzi Toko also missed the Betis defeat with a leg injury which is also understood to be minor in nature.

BOOM. I hope everyone is OK now.

I do hope you are right. I see a few are comparing his goal scoring last year compared to Ulloa, but if you look at the rest of his career only twice has he got into double figures.

His goalscoring record prior to the last 2/3 years is very gay but seemed to do ok with Barnsley, sometimes players do flourish late into their careers. Anyway best not say anymore, I'l only be accused of needing a plastic sheet.
