i read that there's not nearly as much MSG used as you are lead to believe in Chinese food, and the effects of it are unproven anyway. its used more in northern chinese food, where we typically have Cantonese/Szechuan chinese. its in loads of foods natrually, like milk and meat and marmite in particular. it was invented in Japan yet oddly noone seems concerned about its use in japanese food or thai who also use it.

My wife, mother and daughter all projectile vomit and get ill for 24 hours after eating Chinese food with MSG so as far as my family are concerned it is proven. As none of them were eating together at any one time it took a while before we worked it out. Has absolutely no effect on me though for whatever reason.

They'd all rather stick red hot needles in their eyes than risk Chinese these days.

Here, there and everywhere
I also get very ill from it and try to avoid it.

These days it's not just the Chinese restaurants though. Prezzo and Wagamama add it, I'm sure there must be others as well.

The last half dozen times I've had Chinese food has led to a gout attack... Proven enough for me!

Have to be honest, didn't know the Michael Schenker Group had reformed but feel a bit sorry if the only gigs they can get on their world tour are numerous chinese restaurants in the Brighton area. What a come down.

Have you ever had Thai food? I doubt you'll ever have Chinese again, once you've had Thai. Its MILES better.

Thai is amazing as is Vietnamese. I prefer both to Chinese these days. That said I love the crispy aromatic duck in those little pancakes with that tangy sauce... Oh an prawn roast too!
