Never played online but I do have Fritz on my PC and play that occasionally,

I do play bridge online sometimes, using the same site that Bill Gates plays on - don't think I've ever come across him though

I used to play in the brighton Dupree when I was in school. In three years I won around half the games I played, but never made anywhere near the finals.

Played against some Roumanian grand master as one of 30 players and I got a draw, which was one massive fluke as I wasn't that good...he offered me the draw and I took it like a shot.

I play a fair bit. Online I use chessmaniacs and on the iPad social chess.
If anyone is on these let me know I would be up for a game.

Used to play a lot but only for fun, never competitively.

Worked as a printer for four years, where I only ever printed one job. Just loading and unloading paper all day long
I was so bored that I bought a chess computer to play against. Used to beat it quite regularly up to a certain level.

Well the site is IMO very good, especially for free.

There's a daily puzzle and some free training.

I play 5 minute games and there are always plenty of players.

I guess these online sites are a perfect remedy.

I used to love the game, I wasn't overly good, but would like to play again.

When I lived in Italy, I used to play chess in one of the local bars. It was a terrifying experience for the simple reason that, like all Italian bar games, it was played in front of a knowledgeable audience who would take a sharp intake of breath every time there was a hint of a mistake by any of the players. Even worse was the knowledge that I was in some mysterious way "representing England".

Online chess sounds remarkably safe in comparison.

Dupree - was that the Brighton boys tournament? I'd forgotten it's name.

Most memorable game I played was first a first morning, in a full hall.
Playing as black, I faced f3, e5, g4 , ...
